Resting on your laurels? You might want to think twice...

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Harris McHaney & Faucette 479-253-3796

rest on (one's) laurels To rely on one's past achievements instead of working to maintain or advance one's status or reputation.

( Not an actual real estate agent)

In ancient times the winner of a contest might have recieved a crown of laurel. Thus, allowing a person of accomplishment the opportunity to foolishly excercise the act of 'resting on his laurels' instead of participating in the next challenge. The more things change the more they stay the same. We can be so predictable.

In music you're only as good as your last hit. No one brags about being a one hit wonder.

In sports you're only as good as your last winning season. Lose and the checks stop coming.

In the movies you're only as good as your last box office block buster. Reinvent yourself quarterly!

In literature you're only as good as your last best seller. Ask the former best seller plagued with writer's block.

In real estate as in all of life. If you're resting on your laurels, you might want to think twice.

This is really key when you are talking about shifting markets where you are resting on referrals.

I have to watch this each and every day. I've done pretty well for my first year in real estate and there are times when I'm tired and I think maybe I can just take a couple of days off and chill. Then the little birdie on my shoulder says "go ahead...if you want to be hungry". LOL.

That's the key to being sucessful as a realtor... you need to keep hustling or there will be others that will hustle to get your clients.

Kudos to you and your post, I'm with you 100%. It can be challenging to keep pushing forward when it "appears" like nothing is happening. I found this quote I stuck on the wall above my desk:

"Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant" by Robert Louis Stevenson

Rest  my laurels - I think not.  If you cannot get motivated by the thought that your current paycheck could be your last... well than maybe you're in the wrong business!
