The photo was snapped at an annual joint meeting of 5 Rotary clubs in mid-Fairfax County. We were listening to a presentaion by an Australian Rotarian who has developed a training program for small farms in underdeveloped countries. The emphasis is on growing crops that are a nutritious part of the local diet and are easily sustainable. The breakfast meeting was held at the Springfield Golf and Country Club, home of the Rotary Club of West Springfield which hosted the event for 75 Rotarians who could attend. As the incoming President of the Rotary Club of West Springfield the responsibility to conduct the meeting was my prize. I'm the little old lady in pink in the upper right hand corner of the picture leading the meeting. I placed myself strategically at the dining room exit in case a quick retreat was needed.
The members of service clubs such as Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions are local professionals who know how to "move and shake" their communities to cause "things" to happen.
