I am ready for The 4th of July! are you?

This year I am starting early with my flag preparation. Like putting the wooden stick into the flag along with my business card. Working on the flags brings to my mind 3 years ago on the 4th of July it was 105 degrees I am not kidding it was 105 degrees.EB

I had 300 houses to go and when I was half way through I was suddenly approached by an old man who stopped his car and start talking to me. I didn't hear what he was saying because he was too far away.

As I was approaching I started to see that he was very upset and he start telling me, you again with your flags, I am so tired of you invading our neighborhood with your flags and then he mentioned somebody else's name.He took me by surprise and the only thing I could say to him was I am not the person that you mentioned.

My name is Esperanza Butler and this is my neighborhood too. I am sorry that you feel that way please tell me where your house is so I can go back and take the flag from your home and I apologize for any inconvenience.

He started again with the tralalala more complaints.. All realtors are so disrespectful to the United States flag. You shouldn't put a business card on it nor put it on the lawn. I am going to sue you. I am going to call your board. I am going to report you to Sacramento blab bla, bla.

I was so amazed that it is possible that somebody can get so upset with another person just for giving them a flag. Of course I kept my serenity and kept walking with my flags. However I have to say there were also so many nice people opening their doors and offering a glass of water, these people encouraged me to finish what I was doing.Espernza's flags

Next day I went to my board to different departments just to be sure I was not breaking the law. I mentioned everything, step by step, they said don't worry you didn't do anything wrong. Last year I did my flags at night so nobody complained.

So this year I am distributing the flags in the morning.
Again I will put on my patience suit and my strength shoes, and will see what happen. I am delivering "Good Will and pride in our Independence"-

Have a safe.. and great Holiday!

In VA, we will have our flag on flag poles and on the flag stands on the house....Target (#42) has sold out and I got the last one at Lowe's (#48)

I'm not sure why putting your card on the flag or stick is disrespectful

Esperanza, we are also ready. We have paid the local Boy Scouts to put flags up in front of our home in our neighborhood for all the major holidays. they do it as a fundraiser and it keeps the street looking real nice. nice post.

Hi Wallace,

Thanks for stopping by. I am a very respectful person, and very patient with elderly people. I have to understand that some old people see things in a ddifferent way than we see them. My dad is 87 and he is a very respectful man. He doesn't find anything wrong with the business card on the stick.... .Last year I got a good deal on my flags so I bought 1000 in advance. This year I didn't have to go on line and wait for a few weeks to get them.

Bryan,

I think it's great what you're doing paying the local Boy Scouts. Two birds with one stone. I probably will do the same thing for Thanks Giving or Christmas. Thanks for the tip.

Ha ha I Like that terminally grumpy idea - some folks are just that way and oh well.

Keep on going - you're doing a great job. We too do the flag thing and it always is so awesome to see the whole neighborhood covered in flags.

Great job Esperanza!
