This year I am starting early with my flag preparation. Like putting the wooden stick into the flag along with my business card. Working on the flags brings to my mind 3 years ago on the 4th of July it was 105 degrees I am not kidding it was 105 degrees.
I had 300 houses to go and when I was half way through I was suddenly approached by an old man who stopped his car and start talking to me. I didn't hear what he was saying because he was too far away.
As I was approaching I started to see that he was very upset and he start telling me, you again with your flags, I am so tired of you invading our neighborhood with your flags and then he mentioned somebody else's name.He took me by surprise and the only thing I could say to him was I am not the person that you mentioned.
My name is Esperanza Butler and this is my neighborhood too. I am sorry that you feel that way please tell me where your house is so I can go back and take the flag from your home and I apologize for any inconvenience.
He started again with the tralalala more complaints.. All realtors are so disrespectful to the United States flag. You shouldn't put a business card on it nor put it on the lawn. I am going to sue you. I am going to call your board. I am going to report you to Sacramento blab bla, bla.
I was so amazed that it is possible that somebody can get so upset with another person just for giving them a flag. Of course I kept my serenity and kept walking with my flags. However I have to say there were also so many nice people opening their doors and offering a glass of water, these people encouraged me to finish what I was doing.
Next day I went to my board to different departments just to be sure I was not breaking the law. I mentioned everything, step by step, they said don't worry you didn't do anything wrong. Last year I did my flags at night so nobody complained.
So this year I am distributing the flags in the morning.
Again I will put on my patience suit and my strength shoes, and will see what happen. I am delivering "Good Will and pride in our Independence"-
Have a safe.. and great Holiday!
