Voters Get Second Chance in Apache Junction Arizona

The Apache Junction Unified School District will be going to voters for a 2nd time in November asking that a budget over-ride be renewed. This measure was defeated in May and it's going back on the ballot in hopes that teachers and parents will go out and vote to support the renewal. If the measure fails, the programs and services that the Override has allowed the school district to have will need to be phased out over the next couple of years. The District has been using an Override since 1999. Failure to pass will mean that class sizes will increase. It is anticipated that there could end up being 35 children per classroom if the measure fails. Also at stake are programs such as arts and athletic, plus after school programs. Teachers would also have to become their own janitors as custodial assistance would be cut back to only once a week.

Nearly 85% of the schools in Arizona use over-ride money to improve programs within their schools.

Anyone wanting more information about this measure and what it's effects would be can contact the District at 480-982-1110 x 2012.

For the children in the community we need to all get out and vote.
