Let The Games Begin - World Cup 2010, Day 17

Day 16 of World Cup 2010, things are moving a lot faster now.  The airport must be busy as two more teams head for home, United States and South Korea.  Keep the lines moving, two more teams will be reporting at the airport today.

Ghana defeated the United States in a heart breaker 2 - 1 and Uruguay defeated South Korea 2 - 1.

Sunday June 27, 2010 World Cup 2010 enters Day 17.

There are no more second chances, wonder if the Coaches have got this through to the players.

Game 51 will be between Germany and England played at Free State Stadium (Bloemfontein) with a capacity for the World Cup of 48,000.

Game 52 will be between Argentina and Mexico played at Soccer City Stadium (Johannesburg) with a capacity for the World Cup of 94,700.

How about a quick quiz, what remaining flags belongs to what country...

Congratulations Ed Silva of Waterbury CT., you were the first to correctly answer "Name That Flag", way to go Ed

This was really the first time i ever stopped to watch soccer, it was a great learning expereince, more fans than ever cheered for the usa and the tv stations found a way to lower that annoying buzz i heard that first game, it was till annoying though. I did enjoy it and was glad you posted your blog as it brought on a new way to look at the workd cup for me. thanks

Al and Peggy - The US lost so I'm not quite as interested now but I stopped watching because of those stupid horns. I would ban the things and give everyone a tiny paper New Year's Eve noisemaker :-)

It was disappointing John, but think they got further than was expected, so Good Job USA!

LOL! It's always good to have a backup team Sharon!! Go England!

It was a dismal day Michelle. Alot of people are joining you, trying to find a new team!

Al and Peggy I did not get to watch any of the games today, but I did see the scores.  Looks like the winning teams had their scoring shoes on today.

Al and Peggy,

After the two blown calls by the referees in today's games (one in each game) and the two disallowed goals against the US that should have counted, I think they should institute instant replay to make sure there are no human mistakes when it comes to goals.  If they think that would slow the game too much, perhaps, they should allow each team to make up to two challenges per game (for any play they wish not just goals).  Once they have used their two challenges, they can't ask a referee to check the instant replay, therefore, it would make sure the teams don't slow the game too much and use their two challenges smartly.

Thanks for the update. I was disappointed that team USA bombed out but proud that they made it this far. But then football here is much different than football elsewhere in the world...
