Time to Fix the Sins of the Thruway's Past - Tappen Zee Corridor Project - Rockland County Open House - June 30, 2010
The Tappen Zee Bridge was opened in 1955 with hopes that it would bring more jobs and more business to the surrounding neighborhoods that bordered the Thruway, on either side of the bridge. At the time, no one was overly concerned about the possible increase in noise, air pollution or traffic jams. The economic benefits envisioned seemed to far outweigh all else. In addition, no one predicted that the bridge would deteriorate so rapidly.
It has been about 55 years since the opening of the bridge and plans are now being developed for a new structure to replace the current deteriorating one. Along with the new bridge, transit centers, commuter trains and rapid-transit stations are being planned for this 30 mile corridor.
In an attempt to "Fix the sins of the Thruway's past with this new project" an open house is planned by the New York State Department of Transportation and the Thruway Authority to give the people living along this 30 mile corridor a chance to review the plans for the new Tappen Zee Crossing and its transit components and to offer their input, suggestions and critiques.
The Rockland County Open House will take place on :
June 30, 2010
4:00 PM - 8:00 PM
at
The Palisades Center
Adler Community Room
1000 Palisades Center Drive
West Nyack, NY 10994
Now while the plans are being developed, is the time to speak up and offer your input and suggestions. Hope to see you there.
