Today was my first day back in the saddle again...literally. All I can say is...ouch! It all started with my husband taking a couple of much needed vacation days. We had hoped to go out of town for some down time...but, due to things being a little tight financially...we decided to enjoy our time here at home. We've only been married for a couple of years and have talked about taking a trail ride (of sorts) together on our horses, Freckles and Buckshot. Well...as you all know...finding time to saddle up and ride is a little hard to do. But today...we saddled up early this morning and headed for the hill country.
I thought we would be out for an hour or so...but we were enjoying ourselves so much that we just kept riding. That's all well and good til you realize you have to turn around and come back the same distance you came. By the third mile...well...let's just say there was a hitch in my get-along. My get-along was hurting and my horse, Buckshot, was also slowing down. It had been awhile for him too. Even so...we rambled up and down hills all the way back to our little acreage.
Like our ride today...I know for many of you...(including myself)...getting back in the saddle again in the real estate world can be exciting on one end of the spectrum and a little painful on the other end (literally). The desire is there...the means are there...but getting back on that horse can be a challenge. The ride can provide some incredible scenery and new discoveries, but it can also bring reminders of just how hard the ride can be. Having a lot of time on the back of a horse today (3 hours...to be exact)...I had some time to reflect on how my ride was emulating reality. Right now...my "get-along" is hurtin a bit as I try to get my stride in the business. But, I also know...that the more I ride...the better it will get. The roads will get more familiar and I won't be steppin in as many holes as I did the first go round.
If you are at a point in your life now, whether it be in real estate or some other area of your life...where you are thinking of getting back in the saddle but are hesitating...my word to you is "saddle up!" The ride today was amazing. It was everything I thought it would be and more. The sites and even the smell of horse sweat made me remember how much I enjoyed riding. I had forgotten about the saddle sores...but, honestly...it was all worth it. In real estate...I am also remembering some of the saddle sores of the business...but I don't mind them a bit because it's what I love to do.
So, "Giddy up!", Ya'll... There's a trail ride waiting for you to blaze.
Picture 1--Me and my husband Larry...a true cowboy...just after our 3 hour ride in the Hill Country just outside of Boerne, TX.
Picture 2--Me and my horse, Buckshot. Buckshot has a lot of spirit and went real easy on a wannabe cowgirl like myself.
Pictures 3 & 4--My sister took these shots of me "trying" to get off my horse and the moments just after when the hitch in my "get-along" truly kicked in.
Picture 5--Me and Buckshot comin in from our trail ride. He was tired...and so was I. Even so...I had a great time!
