Hopkinton Massachusetts - Fourth of July Celebrations

Hopkinton residents have a choice of festivities this weekend to celebrate our nation's independence.

The Lake Maspenock Boat Parade

This Sunday there is the Fourth Annual Lake Maspenock Fourth of July Boat Parade which is being sponsored by the Lake Maspenock Preservation Association.

Beginning at 2:00 p.m. boats will be lining up in front of Sandy Beach at the lake.  All types of boats will be welcomed at this event including motor boats, kayaks and canoes.

Join everyone for a spirited celebration on beautiful Lake Maspenock.Lake Maspenock

 The Annual Horribles Parade

On Sunday afternoon Hopkinton will also present its annual "Horribles" Parade.  This event is held each year on the Fourth of July -  It is a tradition that began several years ago and includes equestrians, horse-drawn carriages, fire trucks with sirens blaring as well as distinctive floats.

Local residents get together, design and decorate these floats that actually poke fun at small town politics.

Last years' parade theme was "going green" - this year it is "fix it."

The parade starts at the Town Common, then proceeds onto Hayden Rowe, with a right onto Grove Street, a left onto Pleasant Street, a right onto Main Street and back to the Town Common where it all ends in a festive award presentation.

Be sure to come to the Fourth of July events that are planned for the Metrowest area this weekend.

The fun all begins at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Claudette, both events sound like great fun.  What a treat having that gorgeous lake so close by.  Enjoy your day - the boat parade and the fix it parade.

I have to say that I love the names of the lakes in the Ma area. The lakes in the west are nmed differently, it just isn't a lake unless it has a name like Winepinopscot....I have such great childhood memories of summer time on the lake....

Leah:

We have several lakes and, yes, they are beautiful

Toula:

I am hoping for that.  It is supposed to cool off by tonight and be great for the week.

Jim:

I hope yours is a good one,

Jennifer:

I am on the look-out for some local firework displays.  They seem to be in scarce supply this year.

Gerry:

I love those names also. They, obviously, stem from Native American names - Maspenock, Massasoit, Massachusetts (which comes from a Wampanoag word) - to name a few...

The Horribles Parade sounds like a lot of fun Claudette. 4th of July is a big celebration here and it sounds like your town will be out celebrating in full force too!

It is a lot of fun but I am wondering - are we running short of firework displays in this country?  There used to be a couple every year near here but now I am hard pressed to find one.  And, I do so love seeing them.
