Relocating to Phoenix: Travel Opportunities & Weekend Getaways - Part 5 of 8

Phoenix is located smack-dab in the center of Arizona. This means if you drive in any direction for a much-needed weekend getaway or a family trip, you’re bound to stumble upon sites to see, like the Grand Canyon, and towns worth visiting, such as Flagstaff & Sedona. The travel time to any of these places is relatively short (2-5 hours away) & the sites are breathtakingly beautiful.

If you haven’t been here yet, you must. It is one of the seven wonders of the world, after all. About a 4-hour drive north of Phoenix, the Grand Canyon offers hiking [with more than 200 miles of trails into, atop and near the Canyon], dining, scenic overlooks that’ll take your breath away, mule trips [you know you’ve been dying to do this!], lodging, rafting, camping and sites of Native American ruins. And let’s not forget about Havasupai Falls, one of the most famous, visited & photographed of all the falls in the world. Jump the 120-foot vertical cliff and cross that off your list of things to do before you die.

This oasis up north has plenty of outdoorsy activities to partake in. You can hike or bike through the endless woods surrounding the small town or hike, ski, or snowboard up and down the San Francisco Peaks. Tour the lava tubes which winds underground. Want to learn something new? Tour through the Museum of Northern Arizona. Head east about 35 miles, and you’ll run into the meteor crater. How about some fishing? Check out Lake Mary. And if you’ve never seen Indian ruins before, there’s Wupatki National Monument 30 miles north of Flag. There’s so much to do in Flagstaff, and it’s a nice get-away weekend vacation, only 2 hours away from Phoenix.

Vortexes. Hiking. Water activities. Sedona offers outdoor activities the entire family can enjoy, and it’s only about a 2-hour drive north of Phoenix. Tourists from around the world vacation in Sedona to hike through Red Rock State Park & Oak Creek Canyon to view some of the most breathtaking scenery in the Southwest. There are creeks & trails everywhere for you to hike, bike or horseback ride through Sedona. And if you want to cool down, there’s Slide Rock State Park where you can spend the day swimming amongst the red rocks and glide down the natural water chute. For shopping, there’s the popular Tlaquepaque where you can window shop through this courtyard of shops, restaurants and galleries.

From Phoenix, you can also drive about 2 hours south to Tucson or 5 hours north to Page for more hiking opportunities or to visit Lake Powell. Jerome, a small town with a lot of culture worth visiting, is about 2 hours north.

So much to do; so many places to visit! The weekend getaway destinations are endless after you’ve relocated to Phoenix.

I love love love AZ too!  It is fabulous.  There is some humidity during monsoon searon here (july/august) but NOTHING like other areas.  The humidity comes with rain storms so it makes it so nice and pleasant!
