In the past week, I have gone into 2 homes with gas log fireplaces.  One was vacant, one was occupied. It hit 100 degrees 2 days ago.  Both homes had the air conditioning on.  Both fireplaces, the pilot light was lit.  So they were burning gas and heating the house.

Matt...we are not in NV; our temps have been very high for MI.;and I just realized that our log-fireplaces too, have the pilot lights on continually--but then so does our Hot water heater.  Looks like we are not only NOT green-minded, but definitely will not into Cold water showers. Yikes!  Thought provoking post.
