FACTS ABOUT OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM
Happy Canada Day tomorrow Oh Canadians, and those that love them. Check out Vanessa Lindsay's post on the history of the Canadian national anthem. What is Canada Day? .....Check it out.
We have the pleasure of having many friends and clients from Canada...both the French version of Canadian and the English....both delightful!
Did you know that the original music for our Canadian national anthem was composed by Calixa Lavallée, in 1880? Did you also know, that the original French text, was written by Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier, when translated, went like this?
O Canada! Our fathers' land of old
Thy brow is crown'd with leaves of red and gold.
Beneath the shade of the Holy Cross
Thy children own their birth
No stains thy glorious annals gloss
since valour shield thy hearth.
Almighty God! On thee we call
Defend our rights, forefend this nation's thrall,
Defend our rights, forefend this nation's thrall. In 1906 in Toronto, the music was rewritten by Whaley and Royce, and an English translation, supplied by Toronto doctor Thomas Bedford Richardson, was included.
On July 1, 1980, the "O Canada" as we know it, was proclaimed Canada's national anthem
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.HAPPY CANADA DAY EVERYONE!
I appreciate you,
