Gettysburg Pa Prepares for It's Biggest Weekend of the Year
Annual Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment
This past week has been a busy one for residents of Gettysburg Pa, residents that are year round, as well as those that come in for the same weekend year in and year out. Gettysburg Pa has been readying itself for it's busiest and most famous weekend event of the year. The Annual Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment draws many thousands of spectators as well as reenactors during the July 4th weekend.
This year the reenactment will be taking place out on Table Rock Rd, for those of you that may not know, the battle reenactments and encampments do not take place on the actual battlefield. It is far too large and would cause much too much damage. You are talking battle reenactments with full on Cavalry units, cannons and you name it. Believe it or not, the Annual Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment draws tens of thousands of reenactors alone, that's not even counting spectators.
The entire town comes alive for almost non stop activity, many of the local businesses depend on this weekend to supply a large amount of their yearly revenue. This years Annual Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment is the 147th anniversity, on the 5 year dates (140,145) things get especially craxy. I am expecting a real hum dinger come the 150th.
It does present it's challenges to the local population however as you can see from the pics. These roads are pretty much empty the rest of the year, but for Reenactment Weekend, most of the locals stay clear of town. If you are planning on coming out the Annual Gettysburg Civil War Reenactment website has all the information you need to have a wonderful, fun learning weekend.
This is one that GettysburgGerry has attended numerous times.
