10 Tips for Handling a TOUGH Client

10 Tips for Handling a TOUGH Client

1. Have courtesy and show respect, no matter what your client's attitude.

2. Just remember: Your client is upset with a situation, not with you.

3. Don't interrupt, always listen with patience.

4. Empathize with your client's feelings, apologize for the problem.

5. Avoid arguing and remember to remain calm.

10 Tips for Handling a TOUGH Client

6. Do what you say you are going to do- establish trust.

7. If you get angry or frustrated, take a deep breath and stay committed to resolve the situation.

8. Involve the client by asking what they would feel or think would be fair in finding a solution.

9. Use positive language that promotes cooperation, "Lets see what we can do."

10. Ask for details in order to steer the conversation away from emotions.

Not taking things personally goes a long way when dealing with a difficult personality. Do what you do, the best you can do it, and it will work its way out.
