A Mid-Year Good Night from Red Lodge, Montana

It is hard to believe that today is June 30 and that half the year has gone by already!

The following are photos of the latest full moon taken in Red Lodge.   I am making an effort and practicing taking photos with my tripod.

Full Moon In Red Lodge, Montana - June 2010

It may seem that the full moon is just going to roll down the hill.

Full Moon in Red Lodge, Montana - June 2010

For some reason, the latest full moon had a red glow to it here in Red Lodge.  Note the lonely cloud which decided to come by and add a little touch of spookiness to the night.

Full Moon in Red Lodge, Montana - June 2010

Here is the full moon again over the same hill as in photo #1 and with the same red glow and lonely cloud (just below the full moon) as in photo #2.  No zoom here but a panoramic view of the night scenery.  This gives you an idea of the up to 26X zoom feature on my EasyShare Z981 camera (used in the first two photos above) and how far I can zoom in on.

It was a beautiful and peaceful night in Red Lodge, Montana.   Sweet dreams and have a very pleasant night!  Tomorrow is just the beginning of the second half of the year 2010.  I hope it is a great second half for all my friends here on AR and FULL of success, health, happiness and love.

Vegas Bob,

I hope you don't think I copied you.  It is not the sun but the moon that is captured in the above pictures but the ones with the red glow to it (especially the second picture) may be confused for the sun.  I would be interested to see your similar work.  I am looking forward to you getting back.  :)

Brenda,

I am big on ZOOM as I use the feature quite often especially with wild animals and very distant scenery.  Even though it is no DSLR, I am very happy with my Kodak camera.

Marchel,

The most important thing is to have the camera on a tripod.  Regardless of which camera, getting a clear pictures is very difficult for anyone to have without a tripod.  The other thing, I recommend is just playing with your camera at night.  You can try it on the camera's night scenery setting (assuming it is one of the many automatic settings) and also play with the shutter speed(manualoption) as the longer you have the shutter open, the more light will be captured on your photos.  The good thing with digital cameras is you can take many shots at night until you get the one that you want and delete all the others.  I agree that the success ratio is lower with night photos but when you do get that shot with the scenery at night (with no flash), it is worth the time you invested to try and get better with photography at night and of the moon.  :)

Cheryl,

You always come up with great stories that relate to my photos.  I enjoyed reading your comment and it is a joy to share photos knowing that photos can evoke different memories to different people based on life experiences.   Thank you for taking the time to share your interesting life experiences and nicely complementing my photos.  :)

I noticed you sometimes blog late at night (when everyone else here at AR is asleep) but I don't doubt you get inspired and make the most out of those insomniac moments.

Michael,

You are the second person to refer to me as Gary (I am starting to have a second and unexpected identity here on AR).  Lots to be said and gorgeous scenery eh indeed!  :)

Everyone in AR will know when you head over this way as you will catch the shutterbug even more and we will be seeing more posts with beautiful photos from you.  My brother is not much into taking photos but in a span of 24 hours when he was visiting from Montreal and we where on our way to and in Yellowstone, he told me he had not taken that much photos in one day before in his life.

Gerry,   OMG as always you just nailed it with your camera.  You have quite the eye for composition and you certainly know your camera well and just bring things to life for me.  Thank you!  Hope all is good.  ....geri

Great captures Gerry.  I keep telling you to submit them to www.flickr.com and join my little group there.  Too funny VB thought they were sun photos.  Must be that strange glow.  I took some moon shots last week too so I may be a copy cat and post.  It was the first time I've tried photographing the moon since I got my new camera with the larger zoom.

I didn't use a tripod though.  I was just finishing up a hike with the dog and don't have a tripod cuz it sounds like too much work and too heavy to carry.

Jenny,

It is good to get different angles of the same subject (full moon in this case) so It should look different from your neck of the woods (I am not worried about any copy cat).  I will eventually get to flickr (I know I have someone pushing me to join).

Some times we get lucky even without a tripod although the tripod significantly improves the chances of getting good photos at night.  They are mini tripods that can easily be carried and equally good as those big ones.  I have one of each.  :)

Karen Anne,

Thank you.  A good camera is a good first step but learning how to take good photos is equally if not more important.  I had my new camera for about 3 months but I am still hoping to learn about the many features of the camera that I have not yet tried or fully utilized.
