There are many times throughout the year when folks feel it might be just the right time to move. Perhaps right after the Holidays, perhaps then the leaves begin to fall and it looks like an early Winter. There are many times when it feels like it's time.
One of those times, I have seen in the past with many families, is during the Summer when their High School Senior graduates in June, and is headed off to college.
Of course, there's that extra room, now. You know... the one she never wanted to clean up. It's empty, now. But, maybe you already HAD an extra room, and now you've got two of them.
Of course, with your "senior" gone away to school... lots of different emotions roll through your head... especially if you're the Mom. Not only do you begin to miss your "baby" even before she goes off to college... you just KNOW the day you drop her off where she will spend the next four years... that it's just not going to be a good day.
Well... time to put on that old thinking cap... if they still make such a thing... and let your imagination run with it.
I''ll bet you've been thinking about this for awhile. Not right up front, but perhaps you've had the idea about moving... up on a shelf in the back of your mind for quite some time.
So, what will it be ? A smaller, cozier home ? Perhaps a condo or a townhouse ? With the rates so low... you will probably be able to get a mortgage rate UNDER five percent.
Also, remember... a thirty year mortgage, or a fifteen year mortgage, even, should be easier for you to get than most folks... because you probably have a great history of making those mortgage payments on time... for quite a while.
So, think about it. Kick it around for awhile. Why continue to heat and/or cool those empty rooms the kids have left behind ? And, when the sale of your present home is complete, you just might be able to put a large chuck of your equity down on the newer, smaller home... and be able to pay off many or even all of your existing bills. How great that would be !
Think about it, Mom and Dad. This just might be the perfect time to downsize.
