A stand alone bill passed by congress... I'm amazed.

There were many people really upset last week when the home buyer tax credit wasn't extended for the "close date" for those under contract by April 30th.

I wasn't one of them.

I find it appalling that congress continually lumps multiple bills together and think it's wrong.

So tonight when the Senate passed the bill that is only about the 3 month extension of the tax credit I'm wondering if they are finally getting the message.

I'm amazed and quite happy that this legislation passed without something being lumped in with it.

So now if Obama signs it... those buyers who were under contract, but didn't get closed by today.... will have three more months to get the deal done.

Tammy, May I say that I TOTALLY AGREE!  I could not understand why the bill was lumped with unemployment benefits???  That made no sense at all.  I hope they get the message but I would not count on it.

Why do you think there are so many that did not close before the deadline?

What's been the hold-up?  Short sales?  Or appraisals?  Or what?

Jim- the ones I know about here short sales where they are waiting on bank approval and one that isn't a short sale that the first appraisal was way way off and buyers loved the house and changed lenders and had a new appraisal with new lender and it got back yesterday but they couldn't get it closed today.  Buyers were going forward even without the tax credit and close next week, but I'm super happy they will get to get the credit.

Dagny- the only one I know that's not a short sale was turned upside down by HVCC where an appraisal was ordered from an out of area appraiser with access to our mls who did not call my office and ask for help with comps.  I saw that bad appraisal and it was $52,000. off from the appraisal that came in yesterday with a new lender and new appraiser.  Old lender wanted an additional $63,000 down to close and buyers didn't have it.

Tammy - I think it';s a government cover up!  Those weren't law makers that passed the bill! As usual, congress was absent. I think they hired a bunch of stand ins to do their work for them and something finally got done!

Tammy - it isn't often that this happens, except sometimes in the first 100 days of an administration when, I believe, the president can call for bills on their own merit without ammendments.

Karen Anne- when you posted about it and I was not on the same side... I think I said I wanted this part to pass and I too am glad it did.  But I'm also happy the rest of the previous bill was not included.
