Will the Buyer Tax Credit Be Extended?

According to a NY Time article, both the Senate and the House have now passed a bill which would extend the tax credit for 3 months.

This only extends the tax credit for those who were already in escrow by the April 30, 2010 deadline; it does not allow more people to initiate and escrow or purchase at this time to get the tax credit.

This was done because thousands of buyers stood to lose the credit for failure to close timely.  The lenders and escrow companies I've spoken to this week have been crazed trying to close as many sales as possible.

According to California Association of Realtors (CAR), over 17,000 buyers in California alone were expected to be effected if the tax buyer credit wasn't extended.

Now that it has passed both the Senate and the House, if President Obama signs it tomorrow, buyers will have until September 30, 2010 to close their transactions and still qualify for the tax credit.

Christine, it has just been amazing to me to see how many of our fellow agents have not been in favor of having this deadline extended.  How that can be, I just cannot understand.  I am sure President Obama will sign it on Friday, and finally these thousands of families will be able to get on with their lives.

I don't see the down side to extending the dead lines. These people are not to blame for the loan process taking longer. Let's hope we get them the extra time they need to complete their loans.

And once again...

Lender's and Escrow Co's are at the very bottom of the mess. Gives new meaning to 'bottom feeders'...Don't ya think? Did I really just say that out loud? :)

TLW...ROAR!

Carolyn - The only thing I can figure is that they don't want any more money spent?

Randy - I agree with you though some people would argue they shouldn't have waited until the end of the tax credit period to go into escrow, never mind that some short sales take more than 6 months.

Pocono - You have some great people helping you to get that done.

TLW - Yes you did.  Who else's fault could this possibly be? LOL
