Canada Day activities in Winnipeg

Happy Canada Day!Winnipeg, MB.  Today is Canada's 143 Birthday!  We had a few showers this morning but it looks like its drying up and we are supposed to have a high of 30 celcius this afternoon with a chance of showers later on this evening.  I hope you have an opportunity to get out and celebrate this Canada Day in Winnipeg with your friends and family.

Here are a list of Canada Day activities going on in Winnipeg today (July 1, 2010 Canada Day).

In order to make it easier to hop from one venue to another without finding parking each time, Winnipeg Transit will be running a FREE Shuttle Bus between The Forks, Downtown and Osborne Village.

The Forks

Noon to 10 PM:  Family friendly fun all day including clowns, musicians, buskers, crafts and entertainment all over.

4:00 PM to 11:00 PM  Scotiabank Stage  local up and coming bands and artists including The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and The Waking Eyes.

Fireworks at 11 PM.

The Children's Museum admission prices will be 50 per cent of normal prices.

Assiniboine ParkHappy Canada Day!

Noon to 10:30 PM  -  Canada Day Picnic in the Park, Includes games and activities for children, entertainment on the Lyric Theatre Stage and a fireworks show to cap off the day's festivities.

Opening ceremonies begin at 3:30, followed by birthday cake. Free admission to the Assiniboine Park Zoo.

Osborne Village Street Festival

All Day  -  Entertainment, food vendors, demonstrations, children's activities and a main stage at Confusion Corner.

Active living demonstration area features free early morning yoga, hula hoop lessons and demonstrations from local gymnastics and dance clubs.

The Kidz Zone offers a petting zoo, balloon sculptors, face painting and inflatable slide, and tons of games.

Music acts scheduled to perform include Afterbeat, Dust Rhinos, and Oh My Darling.

The Riel District

Free admission to the Saint-Boniface Museum, Fort Gibraltar. Fort Gibralter will have workshops, demonstrations, canoe rides, historic interpretations.

Happy Canada Day!The Manitoba Museum

10 AM to 5 PM  -  Free admission for kids under 12 who show their Canadian pride by wearing red and white.

Royal Canadian Mint

9 AM to 5 PM -  The Mint will be offering free tours, magicians, comedians, interpreters, and a treasure hunt for the kids.

Olympic medals from Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics will also be on display.

Hi Brian!

It is my understanding that there are two Mints in Canada.

The one we have here in Winnipeg, Mints all of the coins for Canada as well as many other countries on a contract basis. 

The other I believe is in Ottawa and that prints all of our paper Money.

I had never seen the Winnipeg mint. Then again, anytime I was in Winnipeg it was January and far too cold to be touring.
