Let's Celebrate! Fourth of July is fast approaching and we've got a little contest for you before you indulge in the fireworks, potato salad and wine coolers. (Wine coolers? Does anyone drink those anymore?!?!)

Here's the deal: Write a Hyper Local Post about a Fourth of July event in your hometown. Include the post in the ActiveRain Channel, Regional (Localism), Topic "Fourth of July" as well as the link in the comments below. Your reward for doing so? ONE BILLION THOUSAND POINTS!!!! As if that wasn't enough, the hotties (er I mean staff) at ActiveRain will be picking one grand winner for a super sweet prize!

The traffic of people searching for Fourth of July posts is heavy. I actually did 2 of these posts earlier today...I hope they count for the contest! BTW, make sure to check the dates on any Internet information you cite. One of my sources was 4 years old (but did not say so)! I had to make the correction after being notified by the park manager. Now I am sure to put the year in all my posts!

Communities big and small on special days does tend to provide a taste of the community and gives many yet another way to view the community spirit. Buildings and schools and industry are great but it is the celebrations that adds so much to the community and it's wonderfully unique character and spirit.

Hi Kerrie, I meant to ask a question. It sounds like you want the post prior to the actual event, right? Sadly the event photos won't happen until the event.

I'd jumped the gun a bit with a post about 4th of July weekend because we have an incredible event in North Kohala on the Big Island of Hawai'i. An estimated 2000 will attend and over 300 local families have registered to join in reunions of high school or other groups. The exhibitions of local history and culture will fill the gym at Kamehameha Park!

Kerrie I'm a little confused. The instructions said to write (a) hyper local post, which to me means (1)

Yet, some people are turning in multiple posts. How is that going to work? Will they get points for each post?

Part of this is a competition for an unknown prize; so I don't think it is fair that some would be allowed to submit more than one for judging, unless it's stated that way so everyone will be playing on the same ball field.
