It's time to take a step back for a moment from work, and all the festivities that this weekend is likely to sport. It's time for us to wish this great nation a very happy birthday, which we'll celebrate on Sunday. For all the problems that we face, all the challenges we encounter, both domestic and abroad, there is no other place on earth I would rather call home than these United States of America. We are the oldest and most successful democracy in the history of the world. We are guaranteed more freedoms than anywhere else in this world, and ours has been the model other nations have used to create their own democracy.
So, this Independence Day weekend, let us pause and count our blessings, as this great nation celebrates its 234th birthday. Rather than sing the birthday song, I think it would be more appropriate to recite that which we learned in grade school.
I pledge allegiance
to the flag
of the United States of America,
and to the Republic, for which it stands.
One nation,
Under God,
Indivisible,
With liberty and justice for all.
