Lou Snitkin - New York apartmentsFor the second year in a row, Macy's will launch their fireworks display from the Hudson River on the Westside of Manhattan.  This year's theme is American Harmony, and the fireworks will be synchronized with a compilation of American music.  The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will perform, as well as the New York Pops Orchestra, and can be heard on 1010 WINS on your AM radio. The selection of music will include patriotic tunes performed by various choral groups.  If you can't get to the fireworks, NBC will broadcast the show, beginning at 9 PM EST.  They have promised that it will be an epic event, launching fireworks from six barges on the Hudson River.  Reports have said that the pyrotechnic specialists have developed new colors for this year.

As always, there are many things to do around town before, after, or during the fireworks.  Here are a few things to choose from that I found at gonyc.About.com:

Big Onion Walking Tours will be conducting a walking tour of sites related to the Revolutionary War in Lower Manhattan beginning at 1:00 PM. Fraunces Tavern, the graves of Alexander Hamilton and General Richard Montgomery, and Federal Hall are among the sites featured on the tour.   Admission: Adults $15, Seniors & Students $12. Meet at the intersection of Broadway and Murray Street, at gated entrance to City Hall Park.
