4th of July Fireworks in Olympia WA - Party Like it's 1776

Fourth of July Fireworks in Olympia WA

**UPDATE**

Information about 2011 4th of July Fireworks in Olympia WA

Fourth of July weekend is now upon us. If you hadn't noticed the firework stands in every parking lot, then consider this your friendly reminder. And though the local weatherman may try to convince you otherwise, it will be a great weekend to dust off the lawn chairs, stock your cooler, and wave your sparklers into the wee hours. Dogs all over Thurston County will be howling (or hiding under the bed in the case of my dog) all weekend as neighborhoods turn into war zones. But if you don't have big party plans or a neighborhood firework contest, not to worry. The Olympia area has several opportunities for you to party like it's 1776.

Premature Celebrations

If one night could not possibly produce enough explosions for you then you will definitely want to check out one of these great shows on Saturday, July 3rd:

South Sound Center Fireworks, Lacey WA

Now in its 44th year, this display brings back lots of childhood memories for this blogger. Kicking off at 5:30 on Saturday you can listen to live patriotic tunes from the American Legion Band, get your face painted, bounce around in the inflatable fun houses, or munch some kettle corn and people-watch. This annual event is put on by Capital Development Company, South Sound Center, and Carls Jr. Restaurant. The fireworks will get started around 10:15 and usually last about 20 minutes.

Boston Harbor Marina Fireworks

Saturday afternoon will make for some rough waters in the Southern Puget Sound as boaters converge on Boston Harbor. Formerly a casual community firework party, this event has become a popular destination for Puget Sounders. The event is put on by the Boston Harbor neighborhood association through the help of some generous donations. If you are stuck on land be sure to show up a bit early as parking is limited and there is no designated area for people to gather and view the show. Alternatively, become a stowaway and watch the show from the calm harbor water. Fireworks will begin at dusk.

Tumwater Fourth of July Fireworks and ParadeAnd Now for the Main Event...

Tumwater's 4th of July Parade, Artesian Festival, and Thunder Valley Fireworks Show

If you didn't burn yourself out on Saturday then you should plan on making 2 trips to Tumwater on Sunday. First for the City of Tumwater Independence Day Parade starting at 11:00. J.P. Patches will be providing entertainment as Grand Marshal of the parade. Park yourself on Capitol Blvd somewhere between Lee St. and Israel Rd. or check out this Tumwater Fourth of July Parade Route map. After the parade, go take a quick nap or stop in for happy hour at River's Edge Restaurant at Tumwater Valley Golf Course (happy hour is from 3-6 p.m.) to get you prepared for the evening.

Once you are rested up, your second stop in Tumwater should be Tumwater Valley for the Artesian Family Festival and Thunder Valley Firework Show. Apologies to the golfers out there but you'll have to stay off the driving range Sunday as it will be transformed into a giant party with inflatable amusement park for kids, games and activities, food booths, music, and an evening of entertainment. Gates open at 6 p.m. with parking available for $5 at the Old Olympia Brewery Parking Lot. So pack your blankets and sweatshirts, and maybe an umbrella (its Olympia, you just never know) and come spend your Fourth of July in Tumwater!
