When my wife's father was 16, his dad and mom left home and left him, and his brother, behind to fend for themselves. Then when my wife was 4, her father died, thanks to Agent Orange from Vietnam.

So she was left with no real ties to her father's side of the family. She decided to do some research and kept coming up with dead ends. I decided since we had a general idea, where they were located, by some reports that came from another relative about 10 years ago, I decided to take a long shot.

I decided to do a title search in every county in the state of Kentucky. Wouldn't you know it, I found him! She wrote some letters to others in the same city with the same last name and the same first names of the brothers and sisters of her dad that we knew. It turned out they were his brother and sisters and we got a call one night on our home phone from one of the letters we sent out.

She has now been in contact with them for about six months and has now taken the family tree on her dad's side all the way back to the 1700's! The internet is an amazing thing if you have a little information an some time on your hands.

                                                          Family Tree

She now talks to some of her new found family members on a daily basis and hopes to get to meet some of them in the next few months.

Tony - I did all the work myself! I spent two hours searching every county in the state. Then I used Zabasearch to track down some phone numbers.

This is a great thing to hear... long lost relatives found... My wife is looking to do something similar in her home country of England, for her biological parents (she was adopted very young)

I will keep you posted on how it turns out...

Paul - I wish your wife the best of luck. Not knowing the search engines over there may make it a little more difficult.

Bill - Thank you

Thesa - Don't you just love what the internet has brought to the world.
