I finally felt, Real Bittersweet!!

Mortgage and Lending with Thomas R. Weiss

Posting, Blogging, Working, Making new friends, it's all so great, and then reality sets in... i'm only human

I know more than ever, that people should prepare for the worst, and hope for the best, but Real is Real.. I will have after this post 30,000 points here on the Rain, and it feels good, but then bittersweet kicks in, and I face the reality of, my friends, Co-workers, Associates, and many others who have families to support and the market crunch is closing in on them. We always hear about Foreclosures and what we don't know is, many are Real estate professionals like ourselves, they just didn't plan ahead, or just fell on bad times, but in the end so many good people that we share our business with are just not making it, and it could be anyone, my first real taste of bittersweet.

The other day I had commented on one of Jeff Belongers posts, and I explained to him, that one woman who I used to work with is having issues, she had done Mortgages for over 24 years, she has seen up and down times, but now she is in foreclosure and I had to see her Daughter, the other night and she was in tears, because she didn't know what her mom would do, I hate hearing about anyone having hard times, but this is it, when there are children and families involved, I have to continue to speak up, Enough is Enough, I don't need all of the Mortgage work out there, I only need enough to support my family, I have to feel for those out there struggling because, it could very well be me, and I know just from the friendships that I have made here, that I would like nothing more than for everyone on A/R to be successful and happy..

I do know that with all that is going on, i'm finding harder and harder to write anything positive, i'm sorry in advance..

Good luck to everyone, please don't give up,

Thomas Weiss

Hi Thomas,  This was a difficult post for you to write.  Now that we are past the headlines associated with the financing crises we start to see the very real human side to the statistics.  Behinf\d every foreclosure there will be a very sad story.

I feel the pain and made a point of reading this post aloud.  I felt it important for everyone in my office to hear the message.   We grow during times such as these.  Hopefully, we become better people and therefor better professionals.

Congratulations on your achievment!  More importantly, though I commend your empathy and concern for the welfare of others.  In times like this, it is our character which gets the biggest workout in revealing how we respond to challenges and support others.

Tom,

What's up buddy.  Been a while since we talked but my wife said she saw you at the John Mayer show.  I agree times are tough but this is the time to shine.  If you can make it in this market you can make it in any.

I feel your message here about these people loosing their homes.  What a horrible thing.  Over 7 million people will be loosing their homes?  That is just crazy! All that being said, I did not want to be the one to say it but when are people going to start taking PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for their actions?  If you got a 100% loan on a 500,000 dollar house without asking questions and finding everything out that the future held for that loan - you must first look in the mirror to place blame before going after the mortgage guy who gave you the loan.  Yeah that was a crappy loan but nobody made you take it. The big issue is that many in America LIVE ABOVE THEIR MEANS.  I thank God my parents raised me to LIVE BELOW MY MEANS.    What about all those car guys that give someone a lease on a 40K automobile that gets repossessed in a year? Do you need the new BMW or would a Nissan or Toyota do for you?  Gets you form point A to pint B! Again, personal responsibility.  Who is everyone trying to impress??????? I think I just found a topic for a blog!

But to confirm I truly feel sympathy for families who went in over their heads and now are feeling the pressure from it.  I hope something happens to turn things around for them. Hopefully a lesson learned.

Thomas...

We have been around long enough to have seen a market similar to this one.

We will recover from it and hopefully, as other's have stated, a lesson has been learned.

I know how difficult it is to see so many people in foreclosure. We see it everyday in our market. It leaves a person feeling helpless. There's nothing we can do and that's difficult.

All I can say is ... Let's see ... How about bubble wrap? I hear it therapeutic :)

TLW...ROAR!

Tom, they say that 1 in 243 homes in Knox County is in foreclosure and it really is a tragedy, but as you say, hopefully something has been learned and it is happening, so those folks and it could just as well be me, just have to chalk it up, do the best they can and move on. I've been through a lot in my life, would take a very LONG post to put it all here and so I've been there (not in foreclosure, but extremely tough times) done that, got the T-shirt and made a solemn promise to avoid those situations by proper planning, realistic expectations, realistic goals and its hard to be disciplined, but when you miss out on one thing, you've got to know you can have the next thing.

I admire your concern -- I feel their pain too -- my husband was without a job for a year, it was difficult, but we managed and it ended up working out.  I have to remain optomistic that these folks that are affected through the mortgage industry will find their way and their "why's" will be answered in time. It could be a new opportunity for them and for a reason.........
