Madden Craze

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Top Properties

As of tomorrow (Tuesday the 14th), or midnight availability tonight in many places- EA Sports will introduce Madden '08to the masses. It's been a number of years since I was able to dedicate time to playing video games- but the Madden franchise, for sports buffs, is about as good as it gets and was always my favorite to play. The gameplay and graphics have always been at the cutting edge of sports games and the franchise modes have allowed the General Manager-wannabes a "chance to run a team." This year's cover boy is Vince Young of the Tennessee Titans.

It remains to be seen whether or not Young will fall victim to the "Madden Curse" which has claimed the season (or part) or Donovan McNabb, Ray Lewis, Mike Vick, Shaun Alexander and Daunte Culpepper- be it from injury or declining/poor performance. Young was, however, suspended for the team's first preseason game for breaking a team rule.

Jim - That's true - you have to practice that stuff SOMEtime I suppose.  As for Phillips, I don't think he could screw it up too much.  Jerry Jones really seems to run the show.  Heck, even Barry Switzer got a free Superbowl ring by inheriting a good team back in the 90's.

Jason- you know it, coach Aikman and Irvin should get more credit than him.....don't want to seem jerky- but the 2007 'boys aint the Cowboys of the 90s....they're going to need a little more coaching to get it done.

No, I agree with you.  I haven't seen the team of the 90's emerge yet.  However, Parcells managed to build up a pretty good team during his tenure, and they seem to have drafted well.  Time will tell....

I bought this game for the Playstation 2 and it isn't all that different from the other versions. I don't have the time to play the online league and create a franchise.

With the free agency it is hard to have a dynasty. Look at what happened with the Patriots they pretty much have a new roster. Their  veterans like ty law , corey dillon , lawyer milloy all left and are making alot more money elsewhere.

Eddy- your example is horrible, my friend. The Patriots ARE the example of how to be a dynasty without retaining old, expensive players. Law wanted big bucks and was let go.....they found Samuel. Dillon isn't playing for anyone...they expect Maroney to not miss a beat. Milloy was cut..went to Buffalo- was cut again...now is in Atlanta, doing what?

WITH a new roster, the Pats are favored to win a super bowl for the 4th time since 2001!?!?! You don't cheer for the same set of players anymore- you cheer for a logo.

Jim--- you have very valid points but the Patriots haven't  won or been to a super-bowl in over 2 years. Being favored is to win a super bowl is great but getting there is a different story. Their defense is suspect but if their free agent pickups come through this year that wont be the case.

I agree with you on cheering for the overall team versus certain players because they will choose more money 10 times out of 10 but can you blame them? :)

We will see what happens this season, cant wait for the kickoff tomorrow

Eddy, you're a great enthusiast about sports. BUT I've never heard something as dumb as "but the Patriots haven't won or been to a super-bowl in 2 years."

The last 6 years the team has WON 3 Super Bowls...and lost by the skin of their teeth in a road, AFC Championship and semi-final game!!!???!!! Aren't you a Raiders fan?? The same team that hasn't been to a Super Bowl in 5 years and hasn't won one in 24????

Hey Eddy, I love ya man (ewwwwwwww) but as much as I depise the Pats and their stinkin' fans...... I HAVE to give props to Brady and company.  They have been "THE TEAM" in recent years..... Kudos to them and their coach and management.

Jim ---- that wasnt a "dumb" comment your response was dumb. "and lost by the skin of their teeth in a road, AFC Championship and semi-final game!!!???!!!" Point being is that they lost in those games and didnt make it to the superbowl. Dont get me wrong the Patriots have been the most feared team in the league, they deserve all the credit they are given.

Yes I am a raiders fan and yes they have been horrible the past few years. We are on the rebound though and we will be back in the playoff hunt sooner than expected.

Who are you fellas picking for tonights game?

Heres my pick:

Indy 35 NO 31

Eddy- what dynasty wins the super bowl every season? I think that to go far into the playoffs the years that you od not win is pretty good.....who knows- guess I'm a dummy!

Pretty good pick tonight ....I think the score will be a little lower- same result.

Rob - What a classy comment.  Who do you like?

Jim - You are dead-on accurate.  Those comments about the Patriots were not really very well thought out.  I am not a Patriots fan, but they have been "the team to beat" for several years now.

Jason- as you know, my favorite team hasn't been all-that close to the Super Bowl in this time-span either, sans one failed AFC Championship game....But I think the comment was written more with heart than head. Eddy's a great sports fan and really excited for the Raiders to kick off this season! (Place your bets now....I hate them- but they WON'T finish in last.....that'll be the Cheifs).

Raiders fan here, but I see much more of the Eagles (the Birds) as i grew up in Philly and now live just outside Philly.

The Birds won me over after Buddy Ryan coached... loved that D.

However...... come a SB Raiders vs. Eagles..... SILVER & BLACK all the way baby.

Tonights game should be interesting.  I have to go with Indy AND..... buck the closer odds and say

Indy 38 - Saints 17 WOWZERS, send me to Vegas

Jim----- yeah the Chiefs have no offense this year and their defense has been terrible the past few years. Its going to be an interesting season across the board.

Rob--- right on buddy the Raiders are on the upswing

I think last year teams had a 'mental perspective' of the Saints pretty much sucking.  A lot of teams were caught off guard.

Now everyone knows what they are CAPABLE of, and have a year of game film on them.

The Saints will be ok this year, but guys like Colston and Bush will not catch anyone off guard.

Their D STILL needs help...... but when you play Indy....... don't they all :^)

The AFC should once again be the more 'exciting' battle to the SB.
