If you are planning to get your own website and domain name, I will recommend 3 websites that have helped me on decide where to go for different services.

When you want to know if that domain name is taken or avaible my best website is this: http://www.networksolutions.com/

For webhosting and domain names the cheapest that I have found is this: http://www.1and1.com/

An extra for domain names and webhosting is this: http://www.godaddy.com/

Any others?

I would never buy a thing from Network Solutions.  Their prices are extremely high and their customer service is horrible.

Use Godaddy for everything!

Want to check availability?  Use their "Bulk Registration" feature - you can check up to 500 domains at once... takes seconds!

Want to see who owns a domain?  Use their WHOIS feature (located at the very bottom) to find out who owns a current domain.

1and1 is good hosting and has excellent service, but I LOVE Godaddy... they're customer service is the BEST.  No contest.  They answer the phone almost instantly and are VERY helpful always.

They're cheap because they try and sell you a lot of extra services.  I have never, EVER purchased any of those ... just hit "no thanks" at the bottom and continue through to your purchase.  $8-9 is a steal.

Fred,

thanks for your answer and your review, I use networksolutions just to check domains availability, not to buy them or webhost, I agree with you on the other providers :)

I've used both Go-Daddy and Internet Crusade for domain purchases.  Internet Crusade is now just about as cheap as Go-Daddy, and you can check availibility and who owns different domains with them as well.  I have found their customer service to be exceptional, any time of day or night, including holidays and weekends!  They're tops in my book.

I haven't used them yet but have heard nothing but great things about GoDaddy. Yahoo domains you can search for available domains and you can get a domain name for $1.99 for the first year.

Thanks for the information about godaddy.  I've heard great things about it too and thought I would see what AR members are saying.
