What Would You Do If You Weren't Afraid?

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Real Estate Shows

While writing my last post, I added the question, "What would you do if you weren't afraid?"  That's one of my favorite questions.  I got curious, and I Googled it.

If you look here, you'll see a list of anonymous answers, some silly, some very serious.

I just asked a few people myself.  I heard:

  • I'd find a job I actually liked.

  • I'd ask him out.

  • I'd bungee jump.

I want to hear what you have to say.  If you want to be anonymous, sign out and leave your comment without your name.  I'm just curious, and I think it's one of the best questions ever.

And I know you'll ask, so I'll tell you.  If I weren't afraid, I'd answer this question.  But I won't.

(At least, if I do, it will be anonymously!!)

Sarah - You already have all those things I wrote - no need to write them.  I think you're right on track.

I would dye my hair blond. I have long, dark hair and I've always wanted to go blond just for fun. Just to see what it's like. But I have always had long hair and I am afraid that if I don't like it (because its a nightmare to keep up with or it is just too shocking) that it will take forever to grow it out and look good again - I may even have to have short hair :) I know this sounds silly, but part of me wants to do it, but never does it because I think well what if it doesn't work out. I don't seem to be that way about bigger more important stuff, but for some reason about my hair...well it's just so personal. I really couldn't imagine getting sick and losing my hair. I understand why that is so upsetting. All this writing about it makes me just think I should really go for it :)

Art - I have all kinds of work to do on myself.  I'm off track in some areas and I know it ... but I kind of like the view from over here.  It's so hard to be good ...

Angie -  I know this will sound stupid, but it's just hair.  GO FOR IT.  I used to switch about every two years between blond and red, I've stuck with blond now because that's what I look like in all these ads we put everywhere.

Also, I have a daughter with trichotillomania, she pulls her hair.  She once pulled it all.  Hair is glorious and I really like mine, but it's just "stuff" really.  If you want to take the chance and see what you look like, DO IT.  If you really, really hate it, go with short hair for a while.  It does grow back.  Sounds like you're trying to talk yourself into it.  (Do it!!)

lol Sarah! If I end up doing it I'll have to post a before/after pic :)

Your words just made me think of another time in my life though... I used to be a smoker. I wanted to quit for a while, but there is a fear there. You become so accustomed to smoking. I remember commenting one night to my husband...oh I should quit, how about I set a date for two weeks from now. He said... if you really want to do it - just do it right now. Just put down the cigarette and never pick up another.

For some reason it just all clicked for me that night. Starting the next day, I woke up and I was a non-smoker. I made the choice. I made the committment to myself and I quit smoking. I have been a non-smoker now for four years. It is one of the best decisions I made. When you make a decision that takes you over a fear it shows you what you are able to accomplish.

Thanks for a great post that made me think.

Angie - I'd love to see your pics!!  And I'm SO glad you quit smoking.  I have a friend that I wish would quit, unfortunately that's something you have to do for yourself, like you did.  You already know about conquering fear, I fully expect to see pictures of you with gorgeous blond hair!  LOL!

Donna - Reserve me a nice bottle of Merlot, please.  ;o)

If I weren't so afraid, I would dance more and without a reason to dance, kind of like when I was young and had no children to embarrass.

Karen, you, David and I need to go out.  :o)

Don't worry about embarrassing the kids.  After you do it a few times, their tolerance level for embarrassment goes up significantly.

Great Question !!!  I asked myself this question years ago and it changed my life.  Now that you brought it up again - I would let people know how I felt regardless.  I would not be afraid of what they say or think, I'd just blurt it out..  "Mr. Seller, You are just the type of seller I would not care to work with.  You want the moon, the stars, and the sun - but you want it all for free!  I'm sorry.  I don't work this way.  Good Bye!!"

If I had no fear:
I wouldn't worry about what others think.  As I grew older and subjected to enormous criticisim about who I am, I learned to conform or lose.  I'd regain my youthful...."what the heck, let's go for it and see where it takes us" attitude.  Gosh I had fun back then!

I'd say NO more often (You want the moon, the stars, and the sun - but you want it all for free!  I'm sorry.  I don't work this way.  Good Bye!!")

I have to remind myself everyday:  It's a numbers game.  The higher the number of people who know you're out here, the better your chances of getting hired for a job.
Thank goodness the gas prices are dropping!  I can canvas more areas without having to take out a loan to fill my SUV tank.

David - Sometime we'll have to plan an AR get together and make total fools of ourselves, OK?

Marie - I find myself just blurting out how I feel if it's good.  People ought to hear it.  Can't quite bring myself to say the bad stuff out loud to them yet!!  (Hope I keep that up!)

Teresa - My "What the Hell Moments" are among my finest, no question about it.  Go have fun again.

Stephen - If I weren't afraid, I might ask to ride on the back.

Sarah,

Fear?  I have none that I can think of.  Life is for Loving, Working, Serving, and Living!  Balancing them is the key.

No fear here, my dear!

David - I am barefoot in real life!  Did you dance?! The Linus dance?  LOL!  Hope you had fun.

Lucky - I still have too many.  Maybe when I grow up I can kick a few more fears to the curb and have a little more fun.
