This Saturday, July 10, 2010, come to Sharkfest at the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons, MD. The museum is located at 14200 Solomons Island Road and Sharkfest will take place from 10am-5pm. Begun six years ago by Doug Poole, Sharkfest is a way to educate and engage children in marine life. Poole felt that the best and quickest way to capture the interest of kids was by talking about sharks, since there is already a natural draw to them. At Sharkfest, participants will be able to see both live and fossilized sharks, learn about sharks'habits as well as their habitats, scour the Discovery Room for a 20-million-year-old shark tooth, have their picture taken inside a Giant Megalodon shark's mouth and even touch a live shark in the shark touch tank. There will also be face painting, shark-based crafts, marine-centered games, shark mural painting and fossils displayed by the Fossil Club here in Southern Maryland. All of this is absolutely free with admission to the museum. If you love sharks or just want to learn more about these magnificent fish, come to Sharkfest at the Calvert Marine Museum July 10th.
