I've Been Told That When In Real Estate One Blogs To......

By
Real Estate Agent with Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc., Annapolis MD 21403 DRE# 319853

I've been told that when in Real Estate one blogs to gain exposure, to become known as the expert in ones field or location, and of course to gain readership, clients and customers. I too believe that to be true as the testimonials across the nation of bloggers who have gained beyond even their expectations is enormous. Even I, who blogs in spurts has gained from blogging.

What to blog aboutI must say though it has always amazed me how some out there seem to never have a challenge on what to blog about and are so darn good at it too yet.... I am not one of them.

But today a comment I received on one of my blog posts, that was so totally non-real estate related, has opened my thought process and brought a new meaning to the reason to blog.

On June 26th I wrote a post entitled Speechless Sunday- A Marines Vigil. It was a video my son sent me that touched my heart.

Today I received a comment and an email from the Marine in the video. Yes he found my post and commented. The Marine in the video now has a name. His name is Tim Chambers.

So though I believe in all the right reasons to blog I also now believe that one can reach for the sky and actually touch it. So whether my blog is real estate related or just a feeling in lifes journey it is important to just do it.

You just never know who you will touch or will touch you in the process.

How wonderful.  I am sure that he was so touched to know that what he did meant enough to you to blog about it.

Martha, I've been criticized for writing about other things than real estate.  Sometimes my posts are just about venting about life.  These writings let my readers see more about me than just real estate.  Because there's more to me than just real estate.  I'm not the best writer but I am transparent.

Martha  That certainly made you stop and take stock of blogging.  It must also have been exciting to be able to communicate with him - you are right on about blogging being aoutreach.

Just blog what you feel.  What I find is that when I write what I think is really good I get no comments.  Then I write something I think is so-so and it hits a cord with people.

Call a Marana neighbor, I'm THERE!

Awesome example!  Blogging is worth it if it just touches one.  I was unsure of the reach of blogging myself, and I happened to get a feature article right around the time of July 4.  The article had a lot of clicks.  About a week before, I'd let folks know of an upcoming event for Independence Day Fireworks.  Over that weekend, clicks hit that article 5 TIMES what my feature in AR received.  Evidently, Google Juice pulled that article up and into readership when folks typed in the long tail search phrase.  (or something like that) So, my blog was actually a community help!  Not touching, like your story, but proof indeed that what we blog is out there, and a service, if we make it one, to our home areas.  Thanks for the great blog. Keep em coming!

Sometimes I think about how much less information there would be out there if real estate agents didn't blog.  We have the ability to add to our communities in so many ways and taking the time to blog not just about real estate, but also about life in general, just adds another layer to the service we bring.

I like this blog content.  There are so many things that are not written about, because the would be writers are afraid of criticism.  I have read blogs wherein the writer had typos and/or grammar errors, or multiple spelleng errors, that frankly, embarras me as a fellow REALTOR(r).

Fear of criticism is a terrible excuse for not expressing ones thoughts.  My most direct criticism is that being a critic, is the easiest job in the world!

Please, don't hold back your thoughts in this media.  It's our media and it is called a 'social' media.

Keep expressing your good thoughts, someone out here will profit by reading what you have to say.....

Thanks,

Verne

Martha,

When I first started blogging, I wasn't sure what to write about.  Reading other people's blogs sometimes prompts me to reply. If the reply gets wordy, then I obviously have an opinion, and could perhaps do a blog of my own.

A client question?  Another blog opportunity.

What I do now is keep a word document called blog ideas. When I start to write, I have lots of topics already on my idea page. What I've noticed, is that I sometimes don't even refer to those, as something new has already popped in my head before I start that day.  You'll see that the more you do it, the more the creativity will flow.  Good luck!

Hi Martha~  There is nothing better than a down to earth person that is happy and content with just being who they are!  I say blog about whatever you are prompted to do.  I say just do what what works for you!  It is all about human contact and being able to touch the lives of others in a genuine and caring fashion!  Go Martha!  It looks like you made somebody's day! And Go Tim Chambers!
