The movie "Take the Lead" with Antonio Banderas tells the tale based on a true story of Pierre Dulane, a classical dance instructor teaching inner-city kids dance while they are in detention. It's not a great movie by any stretch, however its message is one we can all benefit from. There are two scenes in which this message is delivered in a powerful way.
In the first scene Dulane bails out one of his students from jail and takes to student back to his home to stay for the night. Dulane tells the student he can get anything he wants in life if he makes the right choices. The student replies "Only certain people get what they want in life." Dulane answers back after a slight pause "Yeah only people who show up to get it."
In the second scene Dulane's students are upset because they just found out the competition he wants them to enter has a $200 entry fee. They accuse Dulane of wasting their time. He assures them he's teaching them something of value and the students answer back "not in our world". He again calmly responds "Do you know what I see when I look at this room? Do I see a room of rejects? Do I see a room of criminals? No I see a room of choices."
