Nothing is more flattering to me than when a fellow Rainer re-blogs my post! When you re-blog a colleague's post, you are saying, "This is great information - I couldn't have said it better myself!"

Not only do you get to share each other's google juice, but you are providing valuable information for your blog readers. When I re-blog a post, I preface it by saying, "This Philadelphia Realtor writes a great post about pricing your home correctly from day one. If you are considering putting your home on the market for sale, please take a moment to read his post."

The preface clearly indicates that the content is not mine and gives credit to the original author.

I also just started "disabling comments" when I re-blog a post, because this forces readers to go to the original post to make a comment. After you re-blog the post, go back to "edit" the post and you will have the opportunity to disable comments.

Lori, I could not agree more. There is such a wealth of knowledge and advise being shared on AR all the time and some people are able to put things into words more elegantly than others. Reblogging also helps to spread the posts so more people are able to see the post.

Hi Lori ~ I agree, it's definitely a great compliment to have a post re-blogged. I like your idea of disabling comments too and pointing readers to the original post.

Considering how many posts get posted here daily a reblog helps a good post rise to the surface again and give more people the chance to read it.

Lori.....I totally agree with your comments. There are so many outstanding blogs here on AR that getting them out by re-blogging is a great service. Having comments go to the original blogger is super.

Another in total agreement, Lori. Took me some time to realize I should disable the comments but now I usually remember.

It's a bit embarassing when others comment about what a wonderful post you've written and you have to explain that it's a re-blog. I think disabling the comments makes it easier on all!

Lori this is a great post - and so true. Everybody wins when we share good information. As far as not knowing it's a re-blog - kind of hard to miss that, don't ya think? Seems that way to me......

Anna, I have re-blogged many times and people comment as if they thought I wrote it. I read a post by Judi Barrett suggesting to disable comments and have tried to do it since. Makes sense.

Hi Lori ~ I've never reblogged but I'm often happy to come across one when I missed the original post. More often than not I leave a comment on the original post and on the reblog if comments are allowed.

I reblog from time to time. And, I try to remember to disable comments, but once in a while, when I am busy, I skip the step. Thanks for the reminder and nice post.

I hadn't thought about disabling comments, but certainly will the next time I re-blog. I especially appreciate your reminder to folks about adding a comment of their own preceding the post. Occasionally I see a few members who seem to write no material of their own, but just re-blog. It would be nice if they added their perspective in front of the blog as well.

Karen - I think adding your own perspective is imperative, PLUS it's an opportunity to give credit where credit is due. I think this is more important than disabling comments.

I think people still dont' "get" that re-blogging is a compliment and some are still resisting to doing it. I'm not sure if I'd go so far as to disable the comments, but I definitely re-blog and recommend that others do.

Lori, I like to think of re-blogging as a complement for great information, but I've always felt a little guilty doing it. I like the idea of turning off comments so the original poster gets the focus - I try to do that when I read a re-blogged post that "needs" a comment. Thanks for the post.

Lori, I think the way you're handling it is perfect! We haven't reblogged yet, but have considered it a compliment to have someone think enough of our work to do so. The disable comments seems to be the way to go to make sure the comments & points go to the originator.

Lori -- Good points about adding a comment and also turning off the comments. I made the mistake a few times of commenting on the re-blogged post because there was no 'introductory' comment.

I seldom re blog but I am always flattered when my post is reblogged. I don't mind if the comments are enabled because it allows me to thank them for the shout out.

Another important step, when you reblog, is to have the courtesy to leave a comment on the original post, letting them know you are reblogging.

Many times, people are reblogging posts but not leaving a comment on the original post.

Lori, yes lunch soon. I am in Houston Monday coming back Wednesday. I have my check up and cancer prevention is removing moles and dark spots. We are back on Wednesday and we want to come to Tulsa as soon as possible to make a Whole Foods run. I will call when we get back. Congrats on your feature.

It's nice to see an example of "responsible" re-blogging. I personally don't do it because I don't allow my posts to be reblogged. I tried it for a while, but when I noticed many members doing nothing but copy and pasting their "weekly 5" without any intro or explanation for why they were sharing with their readers, I said no thank you. But if there's one thing I've learned here it's on AR it's that what works for one might not work for another. To each his /her own!

Lori - I think I may do the same thing by disabling comments when I re-blog. Nicely done.

Great suggestion about disabling the comments when reblogging - I hadn't thought of that & have sometimes started to comment on the reblog - then realized I should go back to the original post really. And it really is fun to get re-blogged - I'm always pleased someone thinks I said something worth repeating!! :)
