Good checklist Pete! I wrote one as well. I had no clue what to put in it...shelters don't take our doggie. Did you know our shelters would only hold one third of our population on this island? I may need those diapers myself haha.

Hi Pete,

A good idea for everyone. Now I just heard about and earthquake on the Big Island, yikes.

The Big Island is one of my favorites, been there many times. Last time was for the Ironman 1 1/2 years ago. I plan on being in Honolulu late Jan. for the CRS event.

It must be nice to live in paradise. My best to you and all of the folks in HI at this time.

Aloha...

Danielle - Thank you for passing it on!

Sally- LOL, I just came from Long's and bought supplies... including DIAPERS!  I'll save a couple for you!  That's said that shelters won't take your lil' dog.

Lynda - I'm hoping it will end up being just a bad storm rather than a hurricane.  We'd love to have you back for the Ironman!  Look me up wen you're here in January!

Aloha Pete, here is a link to a recommended emergency kit from State Civil Defense. http://www.scd.hawaii.gov/dp_kit.html

Sally is correct, pets are not currently taken at the hurricane shelters.  That is being changed.  I participated in a drill at one of our shelters recently.  The Humane Society had set up a pet shelter there.  It appears they will be available soon.  It was a lesson learned from Katrina.
