BABY BOOMERS IN OTTAWA and surrounding areas are thinking of downsizing and moving to the next chapter in their lives.  Some need assistance and others can manage on their own.  As a baby boomer myself, I downsized about 3 years ago from a country property to Ottawa and at first it felt strange moving from my home but after a few months, the new house became home.  Change can be good.  Adjusting to change takes a little bit of time.

As a real estate agent, I've worked with many people over the last few years who have taken the plunge to downsize and sometimes downsizing doesn't mean cheaper just smaller.  I recently helped a couple move from their 2400 sq ft home to nice 2 bedroom bungalow with a loft.  The house is smaller and on a smaller lot but they paid nearly as much for their new home as they got for the old one.

Another couple, decided that their 4 bedroom house was just too much for them.  Both are professionals,  they are empty nesters and looking for find something with little maintenance and something they could just lock up and leave for the week-end or a few months.  So, I located a beautiful two bedroom penthouse in the heart of the City within walking distance to everything, yes, it was a little pricey but they were happy with the location, could afford the price and they go more than they expected for their home.

But one couple that I assisted in their downsize was totally different.  He became ill and needed to be moved to a retirement home with medical assistance, she decided to with him until things got settled.  Well things didn't get settled and her health started failing so I was asked to list their condo.  When I visited the home with her, she wasn't sure what to do with what.  So I decided to help her, we tagged things that would be going to the retirement home with her; others to be given to family and friends and others to be sold or disposed of.  Then I helped her pack and made arrangements with a moving company.  Got her settled and then put the house on the market.

Helping people with their downsize comes in many forms and every adventure has interesting aspects.

If you know of someone that that needs assistance with their downsizing or should the word be right-sizing www.irenebilinski.com might be the answer.
