San Diego's Golden Hill. Historical, Cool & Groovy.

Hi People.

Are you hip to San Diego's Golden Hill community? You should be.

For great eats you have The Golden Hill Cafe (25th St) is a great spot for breakfast where all of the waitresses and the owner will befriend you within minutes. The Turf Club (25th St) has been a hipster hang out for years where you can have a good steak, if you know how to cook (They have a community grill where all patrons cook for themselves). Krakatoa (25th St) is a cool and laid back coffee house with Delicious drinks and great sandwiches. There is always something cool coming from the store speakers. Luigi's Pizza (25th St) might be the best thin slice in San Diego and Giorgino's (On the 28th St) IS the best Philly Cheese Steak in San Diego. I dare you to say different!

For funnzies you have The Golden Hill Rec Center (2600 Golf Course Dr and part of the Balboa Park system) where they have outdoor basketball courts, hand ball courts, a children's play area, park areas with picnic facilities and outside restrooms, lighted fields for youth and adult softball and baseball, a gymnasium, one meeting rooms, kitchen and community clubhouse, all available for rental use.

Balboa Golf Course (2600 Golf Course Dr and part of the Balboa Park system) is a great public course that is very affordable, $32 for residents on the 18 hole course & $14 on the 9 (The 9 is walkable in under 2 hours and has four 3 par holes and five 4 par holes).

Golden Hill Elementary and Albert Einstein Academy are the elementary schools. Albert Einstein Academy is a top ranking charter school that teaches a dual instructional focus of German-English immersion within the context of a rigorous academic instructional model.

Now, the good stuff. The homes. Victorians, Craftsman's, Bungalows, Neo-Classical. Beautiful Golden Hill history. A home just sold in mid April and the seller said this "It is believed that this grand 100 year old home was built in the "Italian Renaissance" style, with an emphasis on symmetry and grace. The elegant floor plan provides for maids quarters (with bath) on the entry level and all 4 bedrooms upstairs have their own baths(one full and 3 half) In addition, there is an apparent "bathing room" at the end of the upstairs hall, with a shower (still there) and a tub (removed). A spacious (8' wide) hallway extends from the front of the house to the rear down the middle on both levels. In addition to the extra large dining room, there is a "parlor" on the entry level. There is a charming, full-width porch and an upstairs balcony (curved) to soak in the beauty of Balboa Park. It appears that there have been only three owners in the 100 year history of the home. One (John Roberts) was a Major in the Union Army during the Civil War. He wrote his reminiscences (at the age of 87) of that experience while living in this house!" How sweet is that?!?

I'm telling you, Golden Hill is way cool and very affordable (Now). It is close to 3 freeways and walking distance to Petco (Probably to the new Charger Stadium too). Get in while the gettin's good.

God Bless.
