The U.S. Dept. of Veternan Affairs is making it very advantageous when purchasing a VA owned property.  And I have to interject that it's sad to me that someone lost their home.  This is the down-side of the mortgage meltdown. 

But, unlike quite a few bank owned properties, the VA has stepped up to offer their homes to buyers who qualify with some very lucrative terms.

If you're buying a home in Portland, you might consider VA property.

Hi Robert -- I actually bought my first home (when I was 19) using my then-husbanb's VA.  It's a GREAT program!! 

Hey Carra . . . Very good terms.  They should offer these terms for all VA qualifying buyes, not only the VA REO's IMHO.
