Denver Named Most-Improved Housing Market in America

By
Real Estate Agent with Bandy Homes

Last month, Businessweek magazine reported that the Denver housing market is the most improved in the country. Despite having experienced similar recession-related economic and employment slowdowns as other cities, Denver has made a winning comeback.

Want even better news? The article cites forecasting by Development Research Partners of Littleton of a 5% boost in both home sales and home prices in the Denver area throughout 2010. This forecast was proven accurate, reflected by a jump in home prices of around 5.8% during the first quarter of 2010. Last December, we reported that our market was already beginning to normalize; the new report shows that whether you're relocating to Denver or moving within the region, the home buying market in Denver continues to improve.

While job initiation nationwide has been disappointing, and national unemployment rates remain high, it's very encouraging to know that our area's economy is reviving. Unemployment figures in Denver dropped slightly, to 7.8% in April from 8.3% in January. And, the Businessweek article cites data from a recent Manpower Employment Outlook Survey showing that many employers in the Denver/Aurora/Broomfield area either already have added, or plan to add jobs in the near future. Prospects of rising employment have also been spurred through creation of new jobs by renewable energy companies such as Vestas Wind Energy, and the relocation of headquarters for the kidney care giant, DaVita, to Denver from California in 2009 is expected to continue creating jobs. Other leading private-sector employers in the region include DISH Network, Liberty Global, Ball Corporation, and Newmont Mining.

Maybe you've been waiting for the home buying market to improve. If so, the nation has discovered that the improvement doesn't get any better than Denver's - now is the time to move forward.
