For those of you who don't know me, I'm not a realtor...but I play one on TV.  No, that's not true...But, I do work with a lot of realtors, so learning a bit through osmosis.

I own my own flooring store. (hardwood, carpet, tile, sand & refinish, bamboo, and just about any other surface you can name).  I've been doing this for 3 years.  At this point I've had a lot of customers (and thankfully a whole bunch of repeat customers) and I've met a lot of people through netweorking (e.g. BNI, WCR, WEDC, WBC and just networking in general).

What is so funny is that now, I keep running into people related to my job everywhere I go, esp at Starbucks.  In between appointments I often stop off at Starbucks since a) I love it and b) I get internet connection so I can catch up on estimates and emails.  It now seems that almost every time I go to a Starbucks, I see someone I know.

  • Briarcliff Starbucks - saw an old friend from high school (Greeley).  Hadn't seen her since graduation.  (Turns out she needs granite countertops soon...that was just a bonus.)  Oh, and ran into a BNI member I know.
  • Mt Kisco Starbucks - ran into 2 BNI members
  • Larchmont Starbucks - ran into a customer.  She's not ready yet (recovering from surgery) but will be relooking at project soon
  • Stamford Starbucks - ran into a previous customer.  he told me abt a new networking group in CT, so that was cool.  Then, ran into someone I used to work with when I worked at Cadbury Schweppes.
  • Old Greenwich Starbucks - An architect saw the little sign on my car, and now I have 2 pending jobs from him.  Wish me luck.
  • Pleasantville Wachovia - Ran into potential customer.  She said, "OMG, you're the flooring girl.  I don't have the money yet, but I trust you so when I'm ready, I'm giving you a call."
  • White Plains doctor's office waiting room - ran into a potential customer - I have my 2nd appt set w/ her for next Thurs.
  • Active Rain - Turns out I met Ruthmarie Hicks on an appointment about a month ago with one of her clients.  At the time, I didn't realize that I had left all these comments on her blog 4 months prior.
  • West Harrison pool - Ran into a mortgage broker from WCR.
  • Home Depot - Yes, I do go there to spy and make sure I'm cost competitve - ran into customer and BNI member
  • White Plains Stop & Shop - ran into 2 customers, my brother and an old colleaugue from Revlon
  • Active Rain Philip Faranda - Haven't met him yet, but turns out that he knows one of my good friends Marie Graham (they go way back).

It really is quite amazing what a small world it is.

YES- Marie grew up in my neighborhood on the next street and knew my older brother. She reached out to me a year ago and we've been in fairly constant contact ever since. She was a big help when my wife had to go abroad in May. Marie writes a pretty good blog right here on AR.

Vickie - Yes, that would be quite a coincidence given that you live in Kentucky.

Philip - So glad that Marie was a big help.  She has such a kind heart.  And, yes, her blog is great, too...but not as great as she is.  I love how she is so thoughtful and strategic as well as diplomatic in the way she says things.
