Tiffin, Ohio, is a quiet community located on the Sandusky River in northwest Ohio. The city was founded in 1821 by
Josiah Hedges and its location on the river turned the community into a fast-grower - reaching 10,000 residents in only 70 years. The community has been known in the past for
Tiffin Glass and strong industrial and agricultural background.
Today, Tiffin is almost like the town that time forgot. A classic downtown with lots of quiet streets meandering along the Sandusky River. It has even been captured in the
Seneca County Visitors Bureau motto:
Escape to the Heartland, Where History Sparkles
And we are sure it does. However if part of your visit is to see the county's historical courthouse, you might want to move quick as their are plans to demolish the structure -
a very controversial discussion. However, even without the courthouse the downtown has a classic feel that makes it a destination location.
Tiffin area shops include...
- BMD Workbench (2166 State Route 231) - custom and artistic furniture
- The Cross (160 S. Washington Street) - A large Christian store with a wide selection of Christian themed gifts.
- Crystal Traditions of Tiffin (145 Madison Street) - Tiffin is known as the "Glass City" (as is numerous other northwest Ohio towns) and Crystal Traditions is building on that tradition.
- Frameworks (643 Miami Street #4) - Gift shop and specializes in shadow boxes.

Tiffin has undergone a resurgance after watching several of its large industries at best downsizing and at worst closing. The city has replaced them with smaller cottage industries that create a diversified workforce.

Training that workforce are two higher education institutions -
Tiffin University and
Heidelberg College - and two high schools.
The community is served by several hotels in the "Hampton Inn/Days Inn" category that are clean and affordable but lack any major amenities.
There are several city-wide events that occur throughout the community from the Heritage Festival to concerts in Hedges-Boyer Park.
Tiffin is a great small-town to relax and visit in for a nice day away.
If you go: Tiffin is located about 1-1/2 hours north of Delaware. Take U.S. 23 north to State Route 53 in Upper Sandusky. State Route 53 becomes Sandusky Street in Tiffin.
