CONGRATULATIONS COLUMBIA/ELLICOTT CITY-MARYLAND

It's official. Money Magazinehas ranked Columbia/Ellicott City #2 on its "America's Best Places to Live 2010" list. Columbia/Ellicott City is the only place in the Mid-Atlantic region ranked in the top 20.

According to the Money Magazine:

Ellicott City boasts grand homes, a lovely 18th-century downtown, and lots of restaurants. Columbia offers a wide range of housing, tons of parkland, and a major music venue...It's also an economic powerhouse with a jobless rate just as enviable as Eden Prairie's.

As a local resident I fully agree. Ellicott City is steeped in history and Columbia is a progressive community with all the modern conveniences. Both have vibrant and caring communities. There is abundance of activities for all ages. The area offers great schools, public safety and a wonderful quality of living.

 The nearby National Security Agency and the Fort Meade Army base together account for more than 8,000 jobs, and the government plans to move thousands more positions there by next year. Baltimore and D.C. are within commuting distance (30 and 60 minutes, respectively).

For commuters this is a perfect location to Baltimore or Washington and the Military bases with many main highways, excellent public transportation and a recently expanded BWI airport.

As for housing, the foreclosure rate is one of the lowest in Maryland, yet homes are affordable -- by Northeast standards, anyway. Factor in excellent schools and a diverse population and you can see why this place has become a magnet for families.

Property values have not declined substantially like other areas, yet the interest rates being so low make this area very affordable.
