Champaign Farmers MarketThings to Do in Champaign, Illinois: A Ten Week Series, Week 4- Farmers Markets

One great thing about living in the midwest is the availability of fresh, local produce! We have two prominent farmers markets in this area held on different days of the week, making it oh-so-easy for you to stock up on your fruits and veggies...and I'll bet you'll even have a good time while you're at it!

Urbana's Market at the Square

The farmers market in Urbana is located in the southeast parking lot of Lincoln Square (hence the name "Market at the Square") and takes place Saturday mornings from 7am til noon. In addition to produce, you'll find plants, fresh-cut flowers, breads and pastries, homemade salsa, fresh-from-the-farm meat, candles, woodwork, jewelry, and more! Each year the market starts up around the first of May and goes to November! That's quite the run, don't ya think?

And then in November another market starts up, this time inside Lincoln Square. It's sort of a holiday market that's open Saturdays until Christmas. Of course, you won't find as much produce, but instead there are lots of arts & crafts vendors, perfect for stocking up on holiday gifts.

You'll find more information and pictures on Urbana's Market at the Square blog!

Champaign's Farmers Market on Historic North First Street

Again, the name gives away the location! Champaign's farmers market takes place just a couple blocks north of University Avenue in a parking lot on North First Street. It's a newer market that's open on Thursdays from 3 - 7pm (perfect for stopping off on your way home from work!) and runs from early June to early September. At the North First Street Market you'll also find plenty of delicious fruits and veggies, as well as fresh-from-the-farm meat, flowers, arts & crafts, and even some ready-made barbecue meals. YUM!

Check out the Farmers Market on Historic North First Street blog for yummy recipes and more information about Champaign's newest farmers market!
