Active Rain to the Rescue!
My son's wife's step dad just spent 3 months waiting in Pittsburgh for a lung transplant to happen. We have all been on pins and needles waiting for just the right lungs to show up for him. He had pulmonary fibrosis, which is a horrible thing! Two years ago, he had discovered lung cancer, and during the treatments, had found the additional pulmonary fibrosis.
Don fought like mad, and won the battle with his lung cancer. The pulmonary fibrosis was a little harder. There were no treatments and no cure. Eventually he went on oxygen, and became less and less active, as it was activity that was taxing on his lungs' ability to process oxygen. He still kept his professor of law job, as he loves the kids and teaching, and it seemed to give him new life whenever he entered that classroom.
In reaching out to the fabulous facility in Pittsburgh for a transplant, they found he was placed near the top of the list, since he was a healthy older man, except for the lungs. Upon examination, they found that his lungs were so bad that he was placed at the top of the list. Part of the movement on the list is ablility to pay, and the other is dire need in order to live. He had both in his favor.
Two days ago he had the lung transplants, and all were successful. I wanted to send flowers out to his wife, to enjoy as she came home at night from the hospital, but didn't know where to call. I looked at the Active Rain States section, and searched in Pittsburgh. To my delight, there was a fabulous agent named Christa Ross in Pittsburgh, who upon receiving my email, sent me a great florist in the area with phone number.
Active Rain sure was a nice way to find a florist, and Christa Ross was so responsive and quick! Thanks so much, Christa --- and thanks so much Active Rain!!
