The Very Large Array (VLA) is a radio astronomy observatory located on the Plains of San Agustin, New Mexico
The Plains of San Agustin (sometimes listed as the Plains of San Augustin) are found in the southwestern U.S. state of New Mexico in the San Agustin Basin, south of U.S. Highway 60. They are located in Catron and Socorro Counties, about 50 miles (80 km) west of the town of Socorro and about 25 miles north of Reserve. The plains extend roughly northeast-southwest, with a length of about 55 miles (88 km) and a width varying between 5-15 miles (8-24 km). The basin is bounded on the south by the Luera Mountains and Pelona Mountain (outliers of the Black Range); on the west by the Tularosa Mountains; on the north by the Mangas, Crosby, Datil, and Gallinas Mountains; and on the east by the San Mateo Mountains. The Continental Divide lies close to much of the southern and western boundaries of the Plains.[1] UFO researchers such as Stanton Friedman allege that based on witness testimony the plains are the site of a UFO crash in 1947 that occurred near the same time as the famous Roswell Incident.[2]

Interesting, Bob! I remember the Jody Foster film but, I can't remember the name of it. And, yes, they DO look big--just look at them beside the 2-story building!
And, it seems pretty desolate out there--I heard one car pass while you were taping!
Well hello Debe and the name of the movie was "Contact" and these (VLA) are around 4-5 stories tall. Yes it is very quiet out there and Word has it the UFO Crash is Roswell in 1947 actually happened around these Radio disks!
Robert...great video for those of us who probably will not get around to the areas that you do; thanks for the view. Yesterday, Sunday on SyFy the documentary about secret places the Government will not show us--or some closely related title- did speak about Roswell. The story [UFO alien crash] that it happened in that area you videoed make good sense. why would they not 'come-land' at a place using radio-based waves.
Love all insights, stories & even movies about this topic. Big Universe--small Planet upon which we reside--& smaller folks who walk upon this planet. Why not others out "there"--
Hello Laura and I really like "Contact" and every time I drive by these Radio Monsters I think about what sounds around the universe they may pick up!
And Barb keep stopping by from time to time because I post quite a bit about this subject and roll over to my YouTube Account at Swetz777 and take a look at my other Paranormal videos, photos and UFO/ Alien info.
Robert, very cool...not sure though that I want to hear what they may actually pick up one day! A "Contact" encounter might be cool, but a "Mars Attacks"...well that's another story!!
Hey Bob! Nice video, but I would have written about Pie Town down the road. Fresh home baked pie everyday in like 53 different flavors!
The drive from to Soccoro through the plains of St Augustine is a cool drive. It is very quiet and desolate. Depending on the day you can drive for many miles without encountering another car. There's a different feel there. Very peaceful. If you do a day drive from Albuquerque through Socorro and over to the VLA you can head north back to I40 on highway 117 and drive through the El Malpais National Monument. El Morro National Monument is not too far away either.

And Tiffany don't you just love "Contact?"
VB ;-)
Yes, Contact! That's what it was. Great flick--of course, Jody Foster hasn't done too many B-rated films though!
Have a terrific Tuesday...
Bob, that is interesting stuff! Lots of equipment for one small area!
Thanks for the second stop Debe and VB has a feeling you might just like this Radio & Outer Space stuff!
And Tony and Darcy it is very interesting and I wonder what really goes on there?
VB ;-)
Very cool! Are those actually monitoring noise from space? Seriously!? If not, what purpose do they serve?
Hello Lisa and yes they do monitor noise and space, and our Government communicates with ET's.
VB ;-)
