My Sister Called Me Today - How Do I Find an Agent to Refer to?  Go to Active Rain! Where Else?

My sister called me today and asked if you could see the phone numbers for your connections on Linkedin. I have no idea and asked why that was important.

She is an Realtor in Frisco, TX, and she had a referral for an agent in Ohio and thought she would try Linkedin.  However, it was hard to find contact information.

I reminded her that Active Rain was a great place to find referrals to agents in other areas.  She said, "Thanks."  And, I thought no more of it.

Then, an hour later, she called to say, "Active Rain Rocks! Thanks, Sis!"

She had entered a referral on Active Rain and had two fantastic responses in less than 20 minutes.  The only thing she now needed help with was to turn off the referral.

I don't think she'll forget what a wonderful resource AR is any time soon.  She had been trying to get this done for 2 days, and accomplished it on AR in 20 minutes.

Yes, Active Rain is a great place for referrals!  Whenever I have posted them I get immediate responses!

I have never posted a referral on Active Rain, but I have both given and received them via being contacted directly.  I like to hand pick my team mates instead of having to listen to someone try to explain and rationalize their views instead.  I know I received one referral from one of the top agents on AR and someone in my area was offended because they had more points than me, but the referring agent promptly replied, "Jim had better answers online and has more experience".  If you have a referral in Boise, Idaho; I will respond if on the referral site or directly, either way!

Christine,  This is why AR is so awesome because of it's resources!  Your sister works right down the street from me.  Her manager (team leader) lives in my subdivision.   It's such a small world.

Any chance your sister will decide to become an Active Rain member?  Sounds like you won her over to me.

It's the first place I think of and the best place to look and check out an agent for referrals.

Lisa - Me too!

Fred - I'm sure it's good for everyone in the real estate industry.

Gene - It's a great addition to all the other wonderful things AR does.

Cynthia - I really like the ability to get to "hear" from the person before giving a referral.

Christine - I love AR and get so much great info from it however, I have to tell you, I once searched for an agent on AR to refer a relative to. I posted a request and received multiple responses..."canned" automated responses. I tried contacting 3-4 of them via e-mail and never heard a thing. I was stunned! Here I was willing to refer them a cash buyer and they couldn't even acknowledge my request. I was very disappointed. I was looking for someone experienced with Short Sales and one agent had boasted her short sale experience all over her AR profile and her personal website stating how eager she was to assist. It took her 3 days to respond to my e-mail. Needless to say I'd moved on by then.

So true Christine!  Before I found ActiveRain, I was always at a loss when someone asked me to refer an agent to them in another area.  I went to the internet and tried to find someone who looked like they had their act together, maybe tried to find someone in the same franchise as myself.  Now, I just go to the Rain, and I look for active bloggers and agents who are engaged in their business.  Great post!
