What Defines the MetroWest Massachusetts Area?
The MetroWest Massachusetts area is a cluster of towns located west of Boston and also west of Route 128.
More specifically, the MetroWest can be defined as the region enclosed by Interstate 93 to the north, Route 495 to the west and Route 95 on the east as well as the south.
The actual term, MetroWest, originated from a contest that was held in 1983 by the local newspaper that was then called the Middlesex News. The idea of the contest was to come up with a name for the area that the newspaper covered. The name "MetroWest" rose to the top to beat out other entries such as "Databelt" which would have been an acknowledgement of the area's high-tech industry. 
Today the name, MetroWest is recognized with widespread acceptance and bears a connection with prosperous businesses in the region.
The specific towns that are defined as part of the Metrowest are the towns of Ashland, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Natick, Sherborn, Southborough, Sudbury and Wayland. These are all part of Middlesex County with the exception of Southborough which is in Worcester County.
This entire area is serviced by five MBTA train stations in Westborough, Southborough, Ashland, Framingham, West Natick and the Natick station.
Route 9 runs through most of the Metrowest towns providing the area with some fabulous restaurants like Legal Seafood, Skip Jacks, Ken's Steakhouse and Paparazzi. It is also home to some of the best shopping in the region through Shopper's World and The Natick Collection.
The major medical facilities serving the MetroWest are the Metrowest Medical Center at 115 Lincoln Street in Framingham, the Leonard Morse Hospital at 67 Union Street in Natick and the Wellness Center at 761 Worcester Road in Framingham.
