Beach Haven, Is Just That On The Jersey Shore

Beach Haven Borough is a small town on Long Beach Island on The Jersey Shore. This late 19th century beach-front resort was originally established in 1873 to house wealthy summer residents from Philadelphia who were looking for real estate that provided a respite from the city heat on the relatively cooler Jersey Shore. Although some of the major structures have been lost and the beachfront now contains more modern motels/hotels, a large portion of the town retains its Victorian and Edwardian character.

Beach Haven is the busiest beach town on the island during the summer and the community is a busy tourist center offering many fine hotels, motels, and Bed and Breakfasts, and has the islands only amusement area, along with many restaurants, nightclubs and fine beaches. As a matter of fact Beach Haven was ranked in the Top 10 Best Beach's in New Jersey by the New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium. The town also boasts a historical district with many Victorian seaside houses. Like all other Long Beach Island communities, Long Beach Boulevard is the town's main thoroughfare, although it's called Bay Avenue in Beach Haven. It is here that you will find many of the town's shops and restaurants including the amusement park, arcade and water slide...and it's just a few minutes from my home in Barnegat.

The Beach Haven Historic District, listed in both the New Jersey and the National Register of Historic Places in the early 1980s, encompasses the most intact buildings at the core of the resort. you'll find the Long Beach Island Historical Museum, The Jersey Shore's premier civilian maritime museum. The Surflight Theater, Veterans Bicentennial Park as well as the islands' best beaches. During July and August, The Alliance for a Living Ocean runs 3-hour eco-tours of the island and hosts special events like long-board surfing contests. The Alliance also sponsors field trips and other special programs in the summer. The Chamber of Commerce sponsors an annual chowder cook-off in the fall. Life doesn't stop at sundown either, there are many fine restaurants, and plenty of action after dark. In short, Beach Haven is a place for folks of all ages to enjoy themselves.

Hi Karl,

I really liked your post. Not only are you informative about the the RE market on LBI, but you provide alot of general info on the area. I'm from PA and go to the Jersey shore at least once a summer and LBI is one of my favorite shore destinations.

Thanks for sharing & Good Luck.
