Online Test: More Wood Destruction Than is Necessary

Home Inspector with King of the House Home Inspection, Inc

I post photos that are used in many of my online tests here at Active Rain. It is a great venue in which to do so. It is reliable and the photos work out great.

I am in the process of updating a test right now. I thought that I would post a number of the photos that will be in my test. This runs the gamut. Just about any type of wood destroying insect you can think of is represented. We have carpenter ants, moisture ants, four types of wood boring beetles, two types of termites, rot. You can take a look at the photos below and see just how destructive some of these creates can be. Nice shots of mold here as well. You want to keep these critters and fungi away from your wood!

I can see that you have collected an extensive array of damaged wood photos over the years. It shows your dedication and organizational skills. Thanks for sharing.

the top two are a nasty wood boring beetle called the anobiid beetle.

These are simply the photos and not the questions so, other than someone recognizing a pix or two, no I do not expect people to be answering these.

Ask Kate a mortgage question...

I don't mind spiders and bugs. I relocate the good ones outside without shuddering and step on the rest. But somehow the amount of decay you show here makes me feel a little squeamish.

Steve, they may be ugly behavior things but there is a lot of beauty in their designs and patterns.

That's why I like my side of the state.  We have some carpenter ants (pretty bad this year), very occasionally some termites (only one kind) or beetles.

Of course, since we have a low incidence rate, the "conventional wisdom" is that we don't have ANY of those problems.

I'm about the last pest inspector/home inspector on this side. At some point, this is going to cause us problems.
