Rainbow flagSan Diego's annual LGBT Pride Parade and Festival began 36 years ago as a small protest parade. Today it is one of the premier LGBT Pride events in California, and is also the fifth largest LGBT Pride event in America (behind San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, and Chicago).

The parade starts at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and is scheduled to end at 1:00 p.m. Plan on it going a little longer; it always does. There are usually over 180 parade entries, including colorful floats, singing and dancing contingents, and, of course, politicians waving at the crowds and seeking what increasingly is becoming a large and powerful minority vote.Hillcrest, heartbeat of LGBT San Diego

After the parade, which usually attracts about 150,000 people, join about 50,000 of them in beautiful Balboa Park for the two-day Pride Festival. Doors open for the Festival at noon on Saturday and stay open until 10:00 p.m. On Sunday, times are 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

More than a hundred vendor booths sell everything from food and drink to jewelry to pictures to home furnishings to cars and even real estate. There are many music events and dance floors encompassing a wide range of music and dance, as well as various free health clinics.

If you come to the Parade and Festival and decide that you'd like to move to San Diego, please contact me and I'll help you find your dream home. If you're looking for something special in our many gay-friendly neighborhoods, I can recommend the following:

  • Hillcrest, heartbeat of LGBT San DiegoHillcrest, the heartbeat of LGBT San Diego
  • Azalea Park, a neighborhood that fell out of favor until LGBT people moved in and revitalized it fifteen years ago
  • Balboa Park
  • Banker's Hill

  • Mission Valley, where there are 39 great condominium complexes
  • North Park

I hope it was a good one and you had a great time.  We had our Pride weekend here in SF a few weeks ago.  I did open houses on Sunday but I was able to run down to the Civic Center and give a support to my SFGBA (San Franciso Gay Basketball Association) booth.  I know, very butch...that's me!  Best to you.

Hey, everyone!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

I've been very busy, but today I'm trying to follow up on these older posts like this one to see if anyone had any questions or if I really need to respond to anyone's comments.

I will read all the comments and respond to any that need a response, but since this post is rather old, rather than making comments here in my post to each and every one of you, I'll just let everyone know that I have read all the comments and if there are any questions, I'll answer those in comments below this one. Otherwise I'll simply post this comment and then head over to your blogs soon to visit and do some reading and commenting. I hope you'll have a nice welcome mat out for me!

Don't forget to let your cat come out to play with all the other ActiveRain kitties. Your cat-friendly dogs can come, too!

If you need a great cat book, get yourself a copy of Peg Silloway's The Cat Lover's Book of Days.

Hope all is well with everyone.
