I'm a proud owner of my very own first Apple product toy, the iPad for over 2 months now. Let me first start off by saying, I thought I would be using my iPad more often than I should but I'm not. The only time I use my iPad for non-business use is to watch Youtube videos on my bed as I take some down-time.

hi loreena! great video! i'm an agent in orange county, ca and have been contemplating about getting an ipad for both business and personal use. do you have an iphone as well? have you used the ipad for listing presentations and/or with buyers yet? just curious about the functionality. thanks for sharing and please let me know when you do another video update on the ipad. thanks!

Here are my answers about iPad for Real Estate after owning mine for 2 months.

(1) I do not own an iPhone. That was the reason why I got the iPad because I didn't want to commit to AT&T for 2 years. Plus, my phone bill would be close to $175/month while my iPad 3G only costs me $30/month. The upfront cost for an iPad is higher, but I break even in just owning it for 8-9 months. An iPad makes good business sense for me.

(2) Reading my emails, especially with PDF downloads is like pulling teeth on my Palm Centro (hate it with a passion). But I also unlock my Supra iBoxes with them, so I keep it. A huge reason I purchased the iPad is so I could read my emails, review contracts, etc. while I'm on-the-go. I dont have to wait until I'm at the computer to do it. I could right away call my clients, things don't get stuck on my court. Time is PRECIOUS!

(3) A huge reason for my iPad purchase is for my LISTING PRESENTATION.

Let me start off by saying, my goal is NOT to WOW my clients about my PRESENTATION. My goal there is iPadto remove all their fears and concerns, to understand the home selling process. I use my iPad only to illustrate some examples I share with them (that I need them to grasp right then).

As I tell them I effective I am online, I google some terms that may be of interests to them. They will find me.

I also share with them the examples of my Driving Tours as well as my Video Tours of my listings. They get to see and experience it right then as I explained it.

Prior to the iPad days, I would explain it, they "kinda" get it, then when I return, I send them an email with the links. They may have already forgotten about it.

The key is NOT for them to understand what I do. The key is to know that I do what most agents haven't even begin to realize yet.

No Powerpoint presentations. I am a Paper person with simplicity. No fancy technology. I'm just there to present information in its simplest form and to answer their questions about Home Selling. I specifically do not want the WoWness of the Technology to take their focus away. It's about getting their home SOLD. In all honesty, they really dont need to care what I do, my SEO knowledge, how I get their listing syndicated, Top Rankings on Google, etc. They just need to know they are in GOOD HANDS.

(4) iPad for Buyers.

Now, note that my dinky little red cellphone is what I have as my link to the Internet prior to iPad. My MLS has a Mobile version. But it's horrible on my 2in by 2in screen. With my iPad, I can log onto my MLS system, get the information for my Buyers immediately.

The iPad comes in very handy for "DRIVE BYS" too. Now, I don't need to say, I'll get back to you. If it fits your criteria, we can come back to see it. Instead I say, "Let's see what it says on the MLS or Internet. We'll see if it fits your criteria and if it does, we can make an appointment right away!"

(5) Then, the finer subtle points of owning an iPad. It's a toy, a very cool toy indeed. My clients get a kick with playing on my cool toy. Now, that's nothing to do with Real Estate. But I got to joke around with my clients, that's how I build another good rapport with my clients.

(6) Of course, Twittering and Facebooking come in handy with the iPad. Now, that's WORK too! LOL.

 

Now the big question is: Should you be a PROUD OWNER of an iPAD? Well, that's really your choice, depending on your lifestyle. I don't have an iPhone. I think that was my stark difference. Almost every human now has an iPhone. Would you need an iPad then?

With its limited capability, no "phone" capability and no video capability, I might hold off if I had an iPhone. But an iPad versus iPhone 4G, I'd choose the iPad anytime.

Having a phone capability with the iPad would be a great added feature, but my silly Mom was thinking I would actually use an iPad like a phone on my ear. That would be very funny then.

That iPad is HUGE to be a camera for video capability if you hold it by hand. It's also going to be pretty funny if you imagine all these people on the iPad as a phone (to their ear) or Camera.
