My client  is like a dog.......what the heck is she talking about ?  My clients are good, honest people......they trust me, and I am a Top Producing Agent, why would you call my Clients' Dogs?

Clients and Dogs all start off the same. We are the ones responsible for taking care of them.....the client is dependent on us for our expertise, our negotiating, and emotional support.

Baby Boone

Puppies are like new clients.....they trust us....they depend on us.....

My Clients are like my dog...........this came to mind when I watched my 1 1/2 year old cockapoo grab his toy and want to play.  Every day he grabs a toy when he sees me, and wants attention.  More times than not I ignore him when I am working......now here is where he taught me a lesson.

For the past few weeks my dog, Mr. Boone, wouldn't come in when I called him at night.  He would just stand there and look at me. I would then go out and get him to come in.  Once I made the effort to go TO him, he would wag his tail, and come running. He wanted attention.......on his terms.......

Mr. Boone

New clients don't always know what to expect.  They call us, ask a lot of questions,  and want updates (my dog grabs a toy instead of the phone).  They might want to be there when their house is shown, or maybe they need help filling out all those contracts with all those words......Whatever it is , they want to know we are there for them.

My dog wants me to fill his water bowl, feed him, clean up the messes he makes, and play with him.

They both NEED us, and if we aren't there then they stop trying.......and we have to now make extra efforts to re-connect.

The Client might let the listing expire and go to another Agency....why...because of lack of communication. We may have thought we were meeting their needs, but obviously we weren't.

The Dog, they might stop trying to get your attention and instead develop other negative behaviors (this will get your attention), and they just might run away like your client IF they can find the hole in the fence (like a contract ending).

So you see, Your clients really are like dogs.......they want and need us to help them meet their needs, and give them some attention. This is important both before you sign them, during, and after........

It is the after that is important for both clients and dogs.

Thanks Rey...

I do believe that most of the time it is our own behavior that causes others (and dogs) to loose trust.....I learned my lesson, and will make it a priority tomorrow to send out my lonnnnnnng overdue newsletter.

Great analogy, Kathy. These 4 little dogs are so dependent on us.

Well I have to agree on my dog doing things to get my attention and what a client might do to get my attention.  So thanks for the analogy.  I happen to love dogs too!

Missy,

Thanks.......cute family, I'm trying to guess, are they poodles, bishons cockapoos?  The one not on the lap looks like a red fox :) (the eyes)  and I really like the one in the middle...his/her face looks trusting :)

They truely do need us, and boy do we get a lot back in return. Me, I can just handle one :)

Cynthia,

Thanks for stopping by...dogs are truly the most faithful and ask for so little in return.......I love my dog too .  Boy that sounds corny, but it's true......

Kathy, the one who looks like a fox is Dixie, a chiwawaha. She is the alpha dog. Seh intimates all the others.

The other are 2 poodles, brother and sisters. I couldn't resist.

The other is a basic dog. We call him basic for short.

Our neighbors think we're nuts, 5 kids, 4 dogs. WE are.

Missy-

Blessed is more like it.........I too have 5 kids, 7 grandkids, but just one dog :)  hey did you read my new post on spell check Does your spell check work? My Spell check has gone wild.......what the heck is a valid aXML?

Not to be critical, but "chiwawaha" ???  your comment looks like mine , and the poor fox will have a complex of not knowing what she is :)

I like the basic dog.......good dog for a down to earth person....

Like dogs, our clients rely on us for our our professional opinion as they sometimes have no idea of the market, area, and sometimes where the values are heading. Our future reputation is at stake when we take on a client in a market we don't know enough or even don't have a clue. Take care with your dogs!

I surely am not like my dog....especially now that she's on steroids...:)  And wouldn't want a client that is acting like she does right now. I am hoping we can get her off these things completely within the next month. Great comparison though as far as dependent on us

Sally,

This was cute...I am visualizing those doggie steps while reading this :)  Maybe not a Buyer on steroids, but a seller that fixes everything wrong, and has time left for filling out the disclosures wouldn't be so bad :)

Hope your dog is getting better.

Ginger & Roger,

I'm not Sally, but she would agree, I'm sure, that we both hope your clients never bark at you!!!  If they do, then they will truly be "in the Dog House!"

Thanks for commenting.

Interesting perspective. However, I don't know if I would share it with my clients.

What about the client that thinks they know more than you.  I guess sort of like a cat.  They are very independent but need you to eat.

Tom,

Thank you for coming by.......I'm glad too that you found me, now I will be by to "find" you.....this really is a large community, and it's not possible to reach everyone.

Adam,

Perfect analogy :) :)  and even the cat needs us if they get into too much trouble.......
