In my inbox today was a set of funny... southern sayings that made me laugh, but also made me think about my Nanny. I was fortunate enough to have my Great Grandmother until I was 9 years old. I have great memories of her house and spending the night at her house. I even remember sweeping her yard and feeding her chickens.
My message...
Family is the most important thing in your life. Make sure to take every opportunity you can to spend with family and for your children to get to know their grandparents & great grandparents if they are still alive. I lost all my great grandparents when I was a child and both my grandfathers, but because my parents made sure we visited often I still have great memories of all of them.
Amanda- oh me too.
Sheldon- I'm sure I was. I remember LOVING to be with her. My aunts and cousins and I all took turns spending the night. She lived in a tiny house... one bedroom, small living room, tiny bath, and the kitchen. It was torn down a few years ago. I miss being able to drive by. But whenever I smell tobacco I think of her.
Scott- I lost my Grandmother about a year ago and until I found this photo today it hadn't hit me how much my Grandmother looked like her own mom earlier. I'm so thankful the good Lord let my daughter have 3 of her great grandmothers until she was an adult.
what a cute baby! ;)
And I agree with your message .... family is everything....

Aww. This, and your comments remind me of my great-grandma; especially the tobacco comment... I remember her sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch, spitting snuff in a can >.< Yep. Good ole redneck Florida!
Tammy - Family is the most important thing in our lives. When one hurts, we all do. I just found out my Dad may have cancer.
I was wondering when you said "nanny". Now I see that it was your great grandmother. Great picture and memories.
Hi Tammy, What a terrific photo. I love it when you post these. 2 of my Great Grandmothers lived far away, I got to meet them and spend time with them only a handful of times, but I remember them well. The other 2 great grandmothers, I don't know if I ever met them... it's so cool that you got to spend time with your Nanny- very cool.
Good morning Tammy,
I can sure see the resemblance in the eyes and eyebrows..what a wonderful photo..am sure this brings back great memories!
Memories will warm your heart and put a smile on your face. Nice of you to share your picture of your Nanny
Tammy - love the picture. I never new my grandparents. ALl of them were killed in WWII. Lucky you to have a loving one to grow up with!
Lori- thanks... that would be me about 45 years ago.
Lisa- mine too. She always had her little can of "dip"
John- Well I hope it was caught early and he can be cured if that's the case. My father had cancer and surgery in 1999. I can tell you it's made me take the time to be with my parents when I can.
Jane- ah, so were you thinking mama goat? or babysitter?
Mary- I got to know two of my great grandmothers and one great grandfather. My daughter still has two great grandmothers at 22.
Dorie- The older I get the more I look like mom's side of the family. Although, body build and complextion have always been from my dad's mom.
Diane- family is the most important part of my life.
Leah- My husband didn't know his either. And yes, I've been very lucky to have as much family for as long as I have. I'm very grateful for it.
What a great photo and great memories too!

Hi Tammy... what a precious picture! I am sure that it evokes all sorts of great memories or you!
What a wonderful picture! And you are so right on about the importance of family. My Dad is going to be 89 this fall & is in poor health, so we have all been trying to talk with him about his memories of growing up - especially his own dad who died young. We found a lot of old photos he had in his basement, but he doesn't remember who many of the people are.
Steve- absolutely, fantastic memories.
Nancy- My mom's dad was a photographer. He passed away in 1979, but he was great about writing things *names and places, on the backs of photos. My mom picked up the good habit so I'm lucky I have lots of details. What I do wish is that I'd written down stories he told me and my great grandmothers too.
